A Sketchy Endeavor

This is a piece I have been working on (and off again) for the past couple of months. I used to draw a lot but this is my first fore into doing a more hand-drawn digital map. I think I've avoided it because I thought you needed a tablet to do good work. Turns out that you can draw and paint with a mouse.

Cheers,

I really like this so far! Keep up the great work!

I've been thinking of getting a tablet myself but I'm unsure as to whether it will make things easier or just give me one more thing to learn how to use properly!

Thanks for the encouragement Fifty. Yeah I here you. My concern is whether I would find it useful enough to justify the price. Maybe some day I'll ask for it for Christmas.

Ok, so we need to talk about you doing a commission piece for me, if you are willing. Hit me on OP.

I think this is incredible. I love the simplicity of the forests and foothills, but then the mountains really stand out with their detail. It amazes me even more that it's "hand drawn". I really want to see where you go with this. I just wonder what the coastal textures are. Is that likes cliffs and beaches?

Thanks so much for the compliment Realmwright. This is a project that I've had to put on the back burner for some time while I wrap up a couple of commission pieces and navigate all of the responsibilities of my PhD studies. However I hope to return to it soon. The coastal textures started out as cliffs in one place, but it looked kind of funny having the texture in just a few places, so I decided to extend it over the entire map.

Man, get a tablet and hit us all with your awesome skills, Mouse???????? With a tablet this would be even more crazy awesome. Get a Wacom Bamboo for 80€ its cheap, for starters.
  7. arsheesh
Well it would certainly speed things up, that's for sure! I've gone back and forth on whether to buy the Bamboo (as per your suggestion) or to hold out and get something a bit nicer. I've got a bit of a slush fund going on right now from a few previous commission, and once I complete the commission I'm currently working on I think I'm going to take the plunge and buy one. Thanks for the compliment Schwarzkreuz, coming from you that's high praise indeed!

The style of this map is really cool! Simple, yet very beautiful and a sheer joy to look at!

Thanks Antonehn! This one I do intend to finish at some point, just soon as I can carve out time to do so.
