At this point, the map underwent a long arduous process of conversion to a different projection. I didn't have anything in the way of sophisticated computer tools for this, so I used a lot of small processes to unwrap a section of the globe to a flat projection which would be suitable for hexagons. I also planned rivers and coastlines in greater detail. This map shows a summary of the result.
