View Full Version : May/June Entry: The Isle of Mona

05-20-2010, 08:44 PM
My entry for this month is based on one of my favourite series; The Prydain Chronicles, by Lloydd Alexander. For anyone not familiar with the series, you may not realize that the Disney movie "The Black Cauldron" is based off of this series.

The area which I will be mapping is the setting of the Third book in the series, The castle of Llyr.

I just did a basic outline of the isle, and will do more soon.

Go Prydain mapping! One of my childhood inspirations for my love of maps was the Prydain cycle. The style of those maps was very different from this (and more recent editions I've seen don't have maps :-( ), so this should be interesting.

nice coloring you got going there :)

It looks good so far. I don't think I remember the Prydain Chronicles though.

Very lush and painterly, nice.

Ascension says "painterly", which is a made up word he made up. I call it "eye candyesque". You can add esque to anything and it's still a real word. Realesque even.

anyways, another update. I want to add some plot details along the path, as well as a flag/crest of Mona. I can't find any indication as to the flag, save that there is one, so I guess I have a fair bit of creative leeway there.

Painterly is indeed a word, as proven by the internets: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/painterly

Dang, now I gotta make up some new words.

Wow, that looks good. Almost makes me sad that I've decided to purchase CC3 instead of just using PS or GIMP...

haha, this is Corel Photo Paint actually, but is much similar to PS.

thanks for the compliment!

Oh wow. I've never read the Chronicles of Prydain, but the real-life Isle of Anglesey, upon which Mona is based, I'm very familiar with.

Very nice map, Rythal!

GASP! So happy to see that Photo-Paint is able to make maps just the way I want them!
