I recently scanned in a War Ration Book from 1942, and as I was looking at the paper, I thought about how perfect it would be for a map. So today, I removed the text and saved the image for a future map. I thought I would share it if anyone wants it.

This is perfect! Trying to replicate those kinds of folds and stains digitally can be tricky or unconvincing. I'll definitely use this in the future. Rep!

Awesome paper. Seems quite low res though. Has it been blown up in scale?

I scanned it in at 300 dpi. The original is about 6" x 10.5".

As mentioned, it is a little lower res than might be desired: any chance of scanning it at 600dpi-1000dpi? I'd love to be able to make textures out of the pages and split them up into various shapes/configurations...

I would love to scan it in at a higher res but I already returned the document. Sorry.

No complaints here. Higher resolution's always better but this is still an awesome find!

Heya Map Vandal,
I thought I should note that I used your scanned paper in a site banner I did for a RPG news website. I've attached the banner itself below and here's the site:

Thanks again for sharing this wonderful find. It's such nice paper, better than any of the parchment I had on hand. Hopefully this is okay but please let me know if it's not and I'll replace it with something else.
M

Edit: also added his smaller partner banner he's using to link from his other site.

mearrin69,

I have no problems with you using the scanned paper image. I posted it here for all to use freely.

The banner you made with it looks wonderful.
