Lot's of great entries this time, very tough to choose. Congratz to all who entered!

Too bad that we could only vote for three entries cause they were so many that deserved a vote.
Anyway I voted for "Gilmore's Forest" (which is my favorite map),"The Battle of Sugar Highs" and for "The Lookout Islands".Congratulations to everyone.
And now it's time to hand out some(okay a lot:)) of rep.

Awesome entries this time around, guys. You made it crazy hard to spend just three votes. Mine went for:
1) Diamond, The Human Diaspora - Cool concept and great, unexpected use of the shapes. Masterfully executed.
2) RecklessEnthusiasm, Collapsed Bunker - Another great use of the shapes...and it's post-apocalyptic!
3) Rjbeals, Lookout Islands - What can I say? Wow. One of the prettiest maps I've ever seen. And yet, there's something creepy...
If I could spread more votes I'd send them first to Map Vandal (another pretty map), krolac (lovely map and beautiful style, such detailed development), Industry Gothica (yummy colors and that labeling is killing me), jtougas (hey, I also loves me some extra-planar locations)...well, okay, I'd throw one to everybody that entered because they're all incredible maps. Rep all around when I get a chance.

I will make it short: Good entries everywhere and rep to all (as far as I can)!
My favourites are Diamond, RecklessEnthusiasm and tilt, because they really transferred the shape to another level.

I liked Reckless's map a lot. Nicely rendered and such a good and novel idea which for me is a strong quality to have on a challenge map. I also went with RJBeals map cos it was pretty and showed great painting expertise and then Jax's map cos it was unusual and interesting and quite a tough call to pull off. But super job to all who entered. Theres not one map among them not up to main challenge quality.

*The thief enters the polling place and smirks....*
No I did not vote for myself(there were too many better entries..) Everyone did a great job I'm glad I got mine together in time and I'm happy with it.
1. Lookout Island: Just a beautiful map (and my daughter wanted to vote for it)
2. Collapsed Bunker: Just a cool use of the shapes and a great map
3. Sky Islands: as a golfer I want to play THERE..so Jax how much are green fees?...

The repper seems to be broken so I'll have to come back and rep my votes: RJB, Reckless, and Krolac, with Honorable Mention to Vandal.

I have sort of taken to not voting when I'm in the contest but with 3 votes to toss around I think it's ok. I don't vote for myself because well, it just doesn't feel right to me and if I loose by 1 vote I figure my entry must not have been strong enough to blow the competition away.
So, my votes went to
RJB - just a beautiful map, I think this will be really hard to beat. Nicely done. I also agree, there is something kind of creepy about it...like it's too good to be true and it scares me. Add in some Cathulhu monsters and that's a nightmare waiting to happen.
Diamond - Loved the use of the shapes and all the great looking tidbits on the map just make this fun to look at.
Krolac - Just a very clean usage of the shapes to make a nice looking map that is pretty much what we expect to see around here.
I also loved RE's map and if I could have seen some flooring or blown out computers down thru the black areas I'd have been totally sold.
Rogueleaders was gorgeous but needed a bit more mapiness to be a map, great artistic image though.
Tilt's map was great and always made me smile looking at it.
Like others have said they were all great maps and that's what is so nice to see. Everyone should be really pleased with their entries as all of them are worthy contenders.

Holycarp. Great entries this time around. This is so hard to vote, I've managed to trim down my choices to 7 by being totally ruthless with my criteria. I'm just not able to narrow it down further, there's stuff in there that would kick butt in standard challenges let alone lite challenges :)
I may have to take a day or so and come back to finish the vote.
wow - great entries all, took some time to choose from all those and I wished I had about 13 votes more to go :)
My absolute favorite were Diamonds map - really great idea and very well done
Map Vandal and krolak got my other two votes for their great looking maps.
I tried to rep you all - cause you deserve it, but the "man" won't let me ... I've given out to much when I was about halfway through ... so in the words of Senator Swartzenegger "I'll be back"

I just had to vote for RJbeals, Mapvandal, and Marken4.
--The first because it is amazingly well crafted, beautifully put together, and every detail looks professional.
--The second because I just love the illustration style and the peaceful vibe, despite it not being especially "mappy." I also appreciate each person who didn't go for the most straightforward island/water interpretation of the image.
--The third because I just really liked the simplicity and and strong profile-impact of the image (though I hesitated as thus was the only one that seemed to alter the original shape of the original Rorschach image).
Like everyone said, really great effort put in this week: several entries are the quality I'd expect to see in the main challenge rather than the 'lite' one. RJBeals especially--you should go play with the big boys for a gold medal so us lowlier entrants can collect more silvers. :) Anyway, time to hand out rep...
09-17-2010, 07:08 PM
Man.. why they call this the "lite" challenge?? Both creativity and execution this month is VERY good... Can choose only three :( ... I went for MV, RJBeals and IG... cheers!

Talk about a lot of entries! wow. voted for Jaxi, Rjbeals, and MapVandal. good job all; I'll get around to repping everyone when I have a spare half hour :P
09-19-2010, 10:39 PM
Thanks for the votes fellow guilders - and the positive feedback. This was really refreshing for me, and I enjoyed the challenge. As far as playing with the big boys - this was my first challenge and I needed to get my feet wet with you guys. The big boys of this site still blow me away - but they keep me motivated for sure. And I will be entering the New York comp for sure. I just scrapped my Central Park map for a new idea (no thread yet) - but It's more personal to me, and it's more than just a standard map.
But like I said, this was a lot of fun, and I'm glad I stumbled upon the challenge and took a shot.

Everyone did a great job thats for sure. I had to vote for you. Ava (that's my little one) liked your map so much she begged me to print it out and hang it in her room. Don't think I'd be hanging the "Realm Of The Dragonqueen" in her room though...:)
09-20-2010, 03:06 PM
Congratulations Rjbeals!! you certainly deserved the win. And congrats to everyone all the entries were awesome. Can't wait for the next challenge!!
09-20-2010, 05:24 PM
Thanks jtougas. Thats pretty cool your daughter wanted a print on her wall. It is a kid friendly map - as it features my daughter on a Polaroid. And also congrats to the huge lot of other competitors. Great community and support for each other here. You'll be seeing me around !
09-20-2010, 07:52 PM
Congratulations RjBeals! You know have a very shiny piece of silverware under your name and some well deserved rep. Good work!
09-20-2010, 07:54 PM
Congratulations Rjb - an excellent map, well done and I knew you were going to be the one to beat.
So, do Diamond and MapVandal also get silver medals or is there three votes but only 1 winner?
09-20-2010, 08:10 PM
Sadly, there can be only one...I think. Congrats RjBeals. Really nice work on that map. I think I need to get a daughter so I can have a critic to help me develop a cool style like that. My maps would be of no interest to a kid! :) Congrats also to everyone else. Blown away by all the great entries this time around. Rep when I get a spare moment to do it.
09-20-2010, 08:20 PM
Yep indeed - just one winner for this one.
09-20-2010, 08:24 PM
Sorry guys, I tried, you still owe me a beer though :)
09-20-2010, 08:31 PM
Congrats, RJ! I knew that was gonna be near impossible to beat... :D
I'm just surprised and glad I placed second with so much awesome competition.
09-20-2010, 09:17 PM
I'm surprised I got 4 votes..:) That was a lot of fun
congrats Rj on a great map :)

Thanks all - My wife asked what I won, like how much money - I said, none - but I got a really cool silver medal under my avatar, and bragging rights! She just doesn't understand.
09-21-2010, 01:07 PM
Hey RJ, just hover your mouse over your green Rep lights and read that to her :)
09-21-2010, 06:16 PM
Heh, Jax is a glorious beacon of light and I just have much to be proud of. I must have broke mine :)
RJ, just tell her that it's a guy thing...we love braggin rights.
09-21-2010, 06:28 PM
Yeah, I may have to stop gettin rep now, lol. 'Glorious Beacon of Light' sounds pretty fine to me :)
09-21-2010, 06:34 PM
