Curious who of us has made a flag or flags for the countries we have shaped on our maps.

Mostly, I just take alchemy symbols and stick em on a rectangle and call it done. If I had some sort of project that was very near and dear to me then I'd put more thought into it.

Not only do i have a flag for my country:
29605

but I have an entire economy, government, and so on: http://www.nationstates.net/nation=pq_forge

to be honest, i haven't made a map for this yet - it hasn't been until the last month or so that I've felt I had the skill to attempt this. I really want it to be special when I do :)

Not flags but I did sit down once years ago and pound out a bunch of Heraldry shields. I'll have to see if I can scan those in and start using some of them.

I made a whole bunch of flags for my now stagnant campaign setting... but I only have them as a powerpoint file which the board won't allow me to upload.

My Kingdom of Sam'thuma is a cross-continent neighbor of a2area's Torentine. Its constituent Principalities (http://worldspinner.net/worldofaurora/wiki/index.php?title=Samthuman_Principality_Flags) also have flags.

I've made maps and I've made flags. Never have the twain met. This seems odd...

Mine usually take on various colours and layouts, but I ussually have the Spiked Wheel in all of them:

Keep posting your flags guys! Thanks for sharing. This could become a nice little resource. :)

I like Rythal's flag okay, but it would be better with less jpeg artifacting.

What tools do folks use for convexillology? I mostly use inkscape, 'cause a lot of the available vector images of flags on the net are in svg and illustrator often does bad things to svg.

I steal a lot of elements from existing flags. I also found the Red Bull icon on wikipedia and used that once.

For my entry in a Challenge last year (http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?7029-September-Entry-The-Five-Years-War), I had to make a whole bunch of flags:

The "Occital Nations" were altered European powers, so I at least had a guideline on those flags, but I worked up the rest in a few hours. Looking at it again, it's pretty clear that I overused the "white figure on coloured background"; in my defense, though, I was trying to make them simpler.

For our D&D campaign, we let our players make up their own flags for their groups (heralds i suppose). Hubby hasn't asked me to come up with any flags otherwise.

Here are two old ones I picked up off the internet (I neglected to keep a lot of my older images when I upgraded to Windows 7 x64), the second one is a seal. They were used in conjunction with fictional states that were created in Simcity 4.

Here are a couple flags ive prototyped for Paidixira (http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?8713-Paidixira-My-first-worldmap!-HMOG!&highlight=paidixira). These will either bee shipping company flags or country flags; it's up in the air. what I will say is that in general, designing flags really tickles the storycrafter in me. I always want to think of a flag around a story for the state, so every one can be either unique or aptly influenced.

It's not "my" map-making project, but i did make some maps and flags for the open-source game project UFO:AI (http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/News). The following are my favorite 6.

Generally maps I create are not set in periods where flags are the primary form of denoting national origin. I have created maps using Japanese kammon (heraldry), as well as European heraldric symbols - shields mostly, but most maps I leave national symbols out altogether. Consider the idea of "nations" and national flags didn't really exist until the rise of modern republics at the end of the 18th century. For maps set in the late 18th century forward, flags seem the ideal symbol for nation.

Nice flag, though.

Hello:
I have worked on a specific world for almost 35 years. I have learned a great deal about flags, set of arms, and national identifiers. The world is a medieval fantasy world in which most countries are identified by their set of arms or the rule's arms of that country. I also added naval warning flags. That include sicknesses as well as dangerous creatures. The arms also include military units. The following is an example of one of the military arms:
