The title is a vain attempt at giving some cartographic relevance to this (http://www.image-metrics.com/).
OK, I posted it because I just thought it was really cool.

Facial recognition fine-tuned for 3D models or facial mapping - this is some cool stuff!
I've done some 3D animation, but nothing as complex as this! 8)

As a Poser user that just screams SWEET!! at me. I would love to get my hands on that tech. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent trying to get expressions to look right. That tech would make it effortless, but I suspect it costs more than my house to buy, and being just a hobby, I don't think my wife would go for it. ;)
Yeah - I used a similar free product to map my face to a model and the results were only so-so (the result was rather plastic):
