I haven't had much inspiration for this one. I was thinking of doing an old school or another isometric map, but it looks like those areas are well covered. I've decided, instead, to do a cross-section of a cave/lair. I'm going to attempt to show the caves are situated in the earth and give a real feeling for how the chambers are connected. I have no idea if I'll have time to finish by the deadline, but a lot of this is about sharing process.

Attached is the section that I managed to get roughed-out tonight.

I worked on this a little more today. There are going to be three entrances to the cave. One on the cliff face, one on the top of the peak, and one entrance through a large cave and an underground river.

There's only one lonely tree on the top. I'll add more as I go along.

I see lil ant-dudes swarming out of here to menace the nearby forests.

I love this. Do you have a little plan-view map of the caverns made up?

A top down view? No. I'll be lucky if I have time to finish the cut-away map before the challenge is over.

I'm getting to the point where I need to start populating the caves, so it can qualify as a dungeon.

It's getting kinda' lonely in here. I feel like I'm the only one updating. I'm looking forward to seeing how the other maps re progressing.

Hehe..I started mine the day the last challenge ended so I finished up far earlier than I usually do. The advantage is that I can scope out the competition a little more this month.. :)

I didn't do much this weekend, but I did manage to paint in a few intrepid explorers.

I spent much of yesterday trying to get some kobolds onto the map, but they're so small they don't read well at this scale. I'll give it another go today. Maybe I will have to swap them out for some other creature, but I like the idea of kobolds in the service of a dragon better than anything else.

This is really beautiful artwork, Pindercarl, I love the dragon with his talon in the water. Just glorious!

Loving the way this is going. Are we going to see a small guy in a horned helmet and a tiny unicorn? Really excellent work.

I'm going to spout some dragon nonsense now so please don't take me seriously :) (I am a FIRM believer in the "it's your story you write it the way YOU want to) but I just wanted to give you something to think about: You have your dragon VERY far away from her/his hoard..Any dragon and especially a Red would most likely never travel more than a few feet from her/his hoard while in her/his lair. Now with that being said she/he of course has to drink (and far less frequently eat) But most likely she/he would have her Kobold slaves/followers bring the water to her/him. With that being said Reds have a super-inflated ego and for her/him to be staring at her/his reflection in the pool would be right on character. As long as the pool was very near her/his hoard. Obviously I have had WAY too much coffee today and have NOTHING better to do. :)

Does this dragon have wings and does it exit through the water or can it squeeze out through that top hole? Sorry, just thinking out loud but I'm digging the whole scene you have going on here.

Man I need to learn to draw better. My character art doesn't match the quality of this and Iapada's , I got to bring my A game from now on!!! Great work pinder.

Don't feel bad Geamon, I think I suck at drawing people too. Need way more practice. I just don't really like drawing people which makes it even more daunting.

I don't think ANY of you "suck" at much of anything... :)

Thanks for all the kind words so far.

@torstan - I never cared for the barbarian or the unicorn. I guess I should have included the magician.

@jaxilon - The dragon doesn't have wings and, yes, it's supposed to exit through the underground river.

@jtougas - I thought someone might call me out on the separate treasure room. I've moved the treasure into the main chamber with the dragon.

I'm not entirely happy with the kobolds, but I've got to get something in there. Now that I've moved the treasure, I have a whole other room to fill up.
