Hey guys listen to this...

I dumped about 70Mb of textures at this site and idly put in a request if anyone could get some Persian rugs for my Werthers Skull (Feb Map Challenge). I had to make up some rugs using fractals.

Well Marcel went out and photographed a whole suite of them including all the frills around the edges....

http://www.cgtextures.com/textures.php?t=search&q=rug&cat=22019

Amazing ! I wouldn't have the faintest clue where to go to even take the photos...

Edit -- Whoah check the res of these texture files out too...

More textures here (http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/05/27/smashing-texture-contest-results/).

We should really gather all these great texture sites into one post and put them into a sticky.

Well we do have this thread that is sticky: http://forum.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=724

You could just append this thread onto the end of that one if you wanted.

I guess, although that one was meant to be land and sea fill textures only so it didn't get flooded.

That's a good point. Perhaps we should make separate sticky threads for each category? What do you think?

Rather than create another sticky perhaps just edit the first post and list all the texture sites listed here to date?

That could work as well.

They have some really nice terrain textures on there. Great find, Steel General. Hmm they are also looking for beta testers!

Moved all the links to the first post and added two more sites:

http://grungetextures.com/

I also changed the post title and set it stick as suggested.

Oh cool Mayang is back up. That used to be *the* place for textures then it went offline for ages - so long that everyone thought it had gone to the four winds. I wonder how long its been up again. Thanks for posting.

Quite a few nice looking textures here. Searched the forum for 'blender3d' and didn't see this listed anywhere:

Hope you find something useful there.

I ran across TextureKing (http://www.textureking.com) today. It doesn't have a lot of large scale photos, but it has a quite generous license. Might be useful for modern and sci-fi mapping/objects.

Today on the Official Google SketchUp blog they featured A Treasure Trove of Textures (http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2011/09/treasure-trove-of-textures.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+OfficialGoogleSketchupBlog+%2 8Official+Google+SketchUp+Blog%29) with a link to an article on John Pacyga's SketchUp For Landscapes blog (http://sketchupland.posterous.com/great-texture-websites-for-sketchup-and-photo) featuring links to a ton of sites with seamless textures that can be used with SketchUp, Photoshop, GIMP, CC3 and more.
