View Full Version : May/June 2011 Lite Challenge entry - Planet Mining Company

So, who can pass up on a good planet creation - and in my case destruction. As greedy earth companies take to the stars they shy away from nothing to come home with profit.

I tried making a viewport - but didn't think it fit so well with the touch screen so I just threw on a simple white border instead.

Feel free to comment and suggest - I still feel I could do more :)

It looks great tilt! I'm not sure what, but maybe you could do a bit more with the element labelling on the planet itself? At the moment the 'map' part of it is kind of hard to see.

yes.. I've been trying to make some "areas" on the planet ... doesn't look well yet though ... gotta use a prettyfy-inator I think :)

A small update to make it more mappy - mineable territories with one "pulled" out in 3D :)

Looking much better...I confess I was anal enough to check that the Centigrade / Kelvin conversions were correct, lol! Very small point but maybe in the Project Status pull out you might want to replace 'finished' with 'complete' - finished sounds less techy.

hmm good idea.. I was thinking about what to write and couldn't come up with anything better *lol* ... and centigrade/kelvin... nerd *lol*

AH HA! I knew Interworld would have some competition eventually...(WE still have the USMG under our thumb however..) I like the "projected casualties". Parker Northrup and the gang at IW never worry about that.. This looks great. :)

thanks jt :) ... I'll add a company badge as soon as I think of a good name :)

Having now read JT's story I see we have the same background story :) ... so I'll try my hand at a little story writing to set the mood *lol*

Dieter Warthburg was walking back to his quarters, the communiqe from HQ foremost on his mind. He had to find a good planet to mine and soon if he was to keep his job, not to mention his life. Interworld had just scored a major succes in sector 124 B and the Hannover-Rossik share was still way behind after the corruption scandal last fall. He sighed as he put his hand on the scanner. As the door opened he saw the screen flicking on - a message blinking - a private message. He knew who it was before he even reached the screen and he had no interest in talking to him now, listening to the threats, to how high his debts were by now. He sighed, sat down and poured himself a drink. Slowly sipping it letting it roll around his tongue... savoring the taste he leaned back... that Carol had given him some expensive tastes, but damn this was good whiskey. He wondered were she were now - probably gotten out while she was ahead. She hated the job, she told him on more than one occasion - in confidence of course - and drunk. Well they both were drunk, who wouldn't be with jobs like theirs. The glass was empty - already. He put it down on the desk and was just about to open the message getting ready to beg for his life when his com sounded.
"Captain - we got a promising planet only 2 jumps away." the ensign said.
Dieter smiled.

Awesome stuff here Tilt, my only minor bug-a-boo with it is all of the stark white in the middle tend to distract the eye (or mine at least)

hehe... you are right of course, but destroying a planet creates a lot of light *lol*

Yes thats the problem with that type of mining. Interworld's way causes a lot of "dark".. ;). This is such a great entry. :)

*lol*... thanks, thought of adding a bit more story but my kids were pulling at me so I just posted the map :)
