View Full Version : Etrenor, the lonely continent.

This is considered a large island in the world its in.. But in our terms its a continent.
Exported from Fractal Terrains and erosionated (is that a word?) In Wilbur! (thank you waldonrate!)

Update. Working on forests, ocean, and planning how to add cities and landmarks and such.

Looks like good progress so far, though I might suggest a slightly lighter shade of blue for your deep oceans, that small island up in the northwestern portion of the map is almost lost in the darkness. Other than that nitpick, things are looking fairly good.

Great erosion on the mountains! Looking forward to seeing more of this!
erosionated = eroded!

Haha... I knew that! ;)
Update,38553 criticism wanted.

Well done on this. It's looking great.
I would have to back Wolfe up on the sea colour. That island does get a bit lost.
Also, I think the coastline is a bit weak. The land doesn't really stand out from the sea and while this may be the case in satellite images sometimes, I think maps should make things a little clearer. I'd suggest adding some kind of border to the land to make it stand out more, even if it's quite a subtle effect.
I love the mountains though. Great job on colouring them because the erosion really looks good.

I completely agree with the above post.
I do, however, still think it looks omg-ultramazingly-awesome compared to what I'm capeable of. ;)

Looking good eVile. Perhaps what you could do help make the land masses and islands stand out more is to extend the shelf and shallow water hues a bit further into the ocean. Oh also, nice job on the forests, very subtle.

A good begin but just a little thing : you can try to blur a bit the sea along the edges of the map because the texture is a bit repetitive there.
09-17-2011, 02:27 PM
Not too much progress.. Forgot to fix the repeating up on the borders of the map. Messed with the sea a bit and various other tweaks.. And I am laying out some country boundary's. C&C Is wanted.

I think your adjustments to the sea turned out really well: land really stands out better now. On the other hand, to my eye it seems that your rivers are a bit on the bright side. Don't really have any recommendations for fixing this unfortunately though, but just thought I'd point it out as something for you to think about.
09-17-2011, 03:35 PM
Oh, its because I forgot to crop the sea out of the river part. Doh! Silly me.
09-17-2011, 06:27 PM
Loving the new version of the sea... looks really good. And overall great quality map. My only concern comes back to your initial comment - this is supposed to be a continent sized landmass by earth standards - is that right? Or am I misunderstanding your intro? To me it looks more like an island with a large mountain range running through it - if this is on a par with an earth continent or even a large island (Australia?) then I would expect it to be more varied geographically.
09-18-2011, 01:30 AM
I changed it a bit after I made the initial thing. It is the southern tip of a northern Wooded Elf continent. The reason im focusing on this tip is because the Humans recently reclaimed parts of the tip. For the size. Think Australia except thinner and more vertically stretched. The reason for it being so wooded and only a few variances that aren't in the elves control is. 1. Because the elves have great power and they want it be that way. 2. Its a very northern Island(continent).
And the main continent is the size of earth itself. So the world is huge in size.

Couldn't work on this one today..

Edited the size of the continent to something like this (I basically changed it to a very large Island in real life terms. Except a bit smaller.):

A few adjustments.. Forgot to darken the rivers.. Woops! Tell me what you guys think? Definitely about the cities and country borders. (And no im not done doing detail work(Cities, castles, etc..) .. I am NOT labeling this in Photoshop, forget that.. Ill download a different program for that.)
09-21-2011, 04:59 AM
The cities are supposed to be mega-sprawls? Otherwise, they are too big.
Also, if the brownish sprawls are cities, what the grey circles are?
09-21-2011, 09:28 AM
The grey circles are towers. And the cities are a bit symbolic and not to actual scale.

Maybe you can take over doing requests for Jasmine style...I'm tired of doing it and yours looks exactly like mine but with better terrain. :) Good job, man.
09-22-2011, 05:12 AM
Looking great EE
09-22-2011, 06:40 AM
Thanks guys.. And, that means alot Ascension.. I wasn't going for that style exactly.. But it still means alot knowing that.

Added the title thingy ma-jigger.. The border and a few touch ups.
C&C is wanted.
09-26-2011, 02:15 AM
Wow.. Really great :)

I must say that I really love your sea texture! As for the new title and border, while the wood texture beneath the title is very clear and crisp, the texture of your border seems somewhat less so by contrast. I'd recommend using a different texture for the border. My 2c.
09-26-2011, 11:55 PM
Alright. Ill take that in mind. The reason I didn't use a better texture that isn't so blurry and crisp.. Is because.. I couldn't find one.
09-28-2011, 11:30 PM
I can't find a pleasing way to get the key right.. I want it to hang on the title sign.. But, be thinner. I looked at some stocks.. But I am NOT paying 10 dollars for a picture of a sign.

I love those mountains :) . However, I do have a constructive comment. The nation/state bordering the purple border will probably need a different colour, I can just make out a a dark green colour on the south and east but on the northern edge is very difficult to see and makes the border look broken almost if that makes and sense. Maybe a lighter green or gold/orange? Just my opinion.
10-03-2011, 09:55 AM
Ill see what I can do!
10-10-2011, 11:25 PM
Finally getting back to work on this!

The deed is done.
