View Full Version : Maps from Pantheon Press' adventure Grimm Tales

Not all the maps I get asked to do are full colour multi-page affairs. Pantheon Press (http://www.pantheonpress.com/) contacted me back in the spring to ask for some black and white maps for their tarot card based game system Ė Fortuneís Fool. These maps were for their Grimm Tales (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=2741&products_id=93476&affiliate_id=203141&src=FM) adventure Ė Iím sure youíll recognise a lot of the references:

38858 38859 38860 38861

Thereís a special challenge to maps like these. Each map has been uploaded at 100dpi, so the size you see it on the screen is roughly the size it appears in print. Thatís not a lot of space to get a lot of detail in, and when you can only use greyscale you lose more tools for differentiating different features.

The sites were fun to walk through, and I got to design the Manor house from scratch Ė which had some unique challenges due to the nature of the residents. Itís not often that I get to reference Jurassic Park in design discussions on maps. Nothing like a bear the size of a T-rex :)

These are commissions so they are rights reserved.

They look sweet but I get red Xs on all but the third one. Looking forward to seeing the rest full size. Really nice work! I'll have to try some greyscale someday. I rely on a lot of cheap tricks to get my maps to read...and greyscale definitely seems as if it would be a skill-builder.

Hmm, that's odd. They're all working for me. Is this appearing anywhere else on the guild for you?

Absolutely wonderful stuff Torstan. I for one am glad to be able to finally see all this stuff from you because you were pretty quiet there for a bit. I figured you must have had a lot going on so I have been waiting to see something :)
