Hi, I revamped some of the step-by-step tutorials I did (added some steps and made them look better :). I posted them on my new website (fantasy-maps.com (http://fantasy-maps.com)) but of course I leave a copy here for people interested. cheers, DJ

As one of the top artists on the guild, it's incredibly kind of you to share your techniques with the rest of us.

Thanks a million DJ!

thanks guys, I revamped and updated another tut I did some time ago. This is about creating a compass rose. It's not so hard to create a compass rose yourself, its all about repeating elements. The next tut will be a completely new one :) cheers, DJ

Haha, that's great, I will have to try something like this myself. I always twitch when it comes to creating the Compass rose but now I'm looking forward to it.

Great work with these tuts.

Awesome work DJ.

These are just great. As I don't have a tablet, these are a bit too hard to do, but they got me to do mapping with pen and paper which I haven't done years.

I'm definitely saving these for reference. Thanks!

So many different styles of trees on maps... Not really a tutorial, but I thought lets put together a quick reference of possible trees. Maybe of help to people... cheers

Thanks for sharing. Thread rated.

I do like your art. These are fine examples of how to do things. I really like the canyons and trees, but the compass method is something I will need to play with and make some more brushes! Thread rated!

Another step-by-step tutorial I made on request. It tells the basics on how I draw isometric symbols for my maps. I hope you enjoy! cheers, DJ

05-06-2012, 10:56 AM
Oh wow thank you thank you thank you for this one. I have tried SO MANY TIMES to do this and failed completely. Rep coming your way!

05-06-2012, 01:20 PM
thanks, in the future I'll probably make some more for other symbols. cheers, DJ

05-06-2012, 02:41 PM
If I could trouble you with a request, those little mini towns would be freakin' awesome ... I fail consistently at those too!

05-06-2012, 03:10 PM
I've said it before, but these are just awesome. I have actually tried few of these myself, but the outcome have not been even close to these pieces...I need more practise

05-11-2012, 06:04 PM
Ha, found it! Thank you very much! ;)

05-13-2012, 04:46 PM
thanks! On request of Gidde I tried to make one for a city. Not as good as the last one but I hope this explains a little on how I think when I do these symbol thingies, .... and maybe it's of use. cheers, DJ

05-13-2012, 05:56 PM
Well I think that's just dandy! Thanks so much for humoring my request :) I can't wait to go practice this up!

Edit. Ugh -- I still can't rep you yet. The thought is there!

Excellent work, Djekspek! It's obvious you're a pro, thanks for sharing your trade secrets. I'm new to this map making biz. I'm helping my brother with his map for his book to flesh them out in a more artistic way. These tuts and this site in general have been really helpful. It's getting me excited to start working :)

Hi DJ,

I wanted to ask what the anme of your title font is, I like it.

06-04-2012, 09:18 AM
Excellent work Djekspek! Will definitely brush up on some of these when I get a bit of spare time. Looking forward to some more helpful tuts :D

This is awesome! Just looking at this I can improve my forests in a real simple way, and this is great for all kinds of other stuff too. So, if you wanted more rounded buildings, I suppose you'd do it the same way as with those cities and castles, and just make the bottoms of the roofs and walls with a curve instead of a right angle?

06-04-2012, 06:34 PM
thanks guys, glad they are of use :) @Schwarzkreuz: the font is waters gothic (http://www.dafont.com/search.php?q=waters+gothic). cheers, DJ
