Last summer I took these pictures of a rustic chapel in Maine. The building was too cool not to map it out as best I could.

And the map

The reference photos are great, and the map turned out very nice.

Ummm..The light would not come in like that from all sides(well...assuming there is not some type of candle or other light source sitting right outside of each window!!!)

Also, your tree shows don't line up all together. The one on the mid right has the light coming from almost due north(or up as the case may be on this map) while the ones on the right have a NW light source. Then the plants outside on the back wall have lighting from SE and the gazeebo/arbor and well has light from due West.

It's a good start, but I think, nay I KNOW you can do better....(just a challenge....heh)

If you want to attack the shadows, then the building needs to cast a shadow as well.

... with respect to the window light, I saw it as a means to convey data on the shape of the windows rather than "photorealism" - more important to a map used in a game.

For that matter, in an otherwise unlit building, the light from the sky opposite the sun on a bright day is still quite striking.

But actually, that's God's holy light flooding in, so case closed.

Seriously, if you look at the reference pics, you can see the light bright in windows on opposite sides.

Thanks guys, glad you like the photos and map.

I can see where the shadows on the trees and other outside objects could be a bit more consistent. I'll work on that.

rdanhenry is correct about the interior lights, despite the sun being brighter on one side of the building than the other,
the photos show that windows were almost equally bright on both sides and that is also what it looked like when I was there.

Pretty cool map! :) Now make the orange goblin high priest of Pholiblobbos of the Many Glibbers as an NPC that can be saved from the catacombs beneath! :)
