Well then ... first time for me to participate in a challenge :)

The Compass Rose is inspired by the one I've used in my Kargath Map

Ohhh ... that's very sexy. What do the various symbols stand for?

Auch, diseses Forum ist immer mehr Deutsch ... o.O (and my German is still sehr lousy)

The symbols kind of hint at the different informational categories of the map.

the upper left symbol -> tree & deer -> nature -> hint at all the information in the map that related to nature (like forests, rivers, mountains etc.)
the upper right symbol -> three torches -> religion -> hint at all the information in the map that are related to religion (sacred places, monasteries, churches etc.)
the lower left symbol -> crown -> politics/reign -> hint at all political information in the map (political borders, capitals, castles)
the lower right symbol -> wheel -> trade/merchants -> hint at all information in the map that are related to trade (routes, streets, citys (with markets), ports etc.)

don't blame your german ... it's pretty good.

By the way:

Lineart is done with vector graphics editor Inkscape
Colouring is done with Gimp and a Wacom Bamboo

Yes. The cartographer who made it is German. At least, his location is listed as Germany.

O for Ost, whence Österreich (Austria in English) - the Eastern Kingdom.

That is correct. I would have done it in english if I had spent any thought on translation ... aamof I just intuitively took the German translation
