Ladies and Gentlemen of the Cartographers' Guild!

I am pleased to inform you all that due to the popularity and relevancy of this site, we have been bought out! Last week, I began discussions with an "unnamed but interested" party to place a value on the website. I assure you I valued this community extremely high, and then the "unnamed but interested party" made me an offer that I could not refuse!

I have been told that I should not release the name of the buyer, because for marketing reasons I believe they intend to turn this website into one of their products. They have their own marketing strategy set aside for this purpose, and I'd hate to ruin it.

But sometime today, the board may go down for a database export and transition to the new owners. In the meantime, I'm going to go buy a new car!

It's good for you but is it good for us?

I did a search through some recent business websites and discovered the name of the (big!) multimedia company that bought the site – and how much they valued it. Whilst I am glad that you managed to make so much money, I am very disappointed that this site is now being commercialised in this way. Although the article stated that commercial elements (subscription, commission, advertising etc.) would not be brought in until after the summer, I am extremely upset and feel like the entire community has been betrayed. I for one will be turning to the new google-maps feature MapQuest for my mapping needs from now on.

First of all congratz! You put a lot of effort in this for years and really deserve this!

I'm very curious however what this means for the guild and whether it will be linked to some company ... Until now the CG was sort of a 'brand', and I made some (albeit small) donations help keep this up and gladly freely posted most of my maps to the site, as I knew it was in good hands... But now that it is being sold, I'm not sure what to make of it ... Maybe you guys could elaborate a bit more on what this means for the members and the guild...?

cheers, DJ

edit: wow, I also did find that website, and it almost sounds too good to be true indeed!

Congrats! Can you buy me a car too now? This one should do nicely...

I also need someone to pay my gambling debts and I have a massive cocaine habit that needs to be supported!

It's interesting that this news comes today. Should I read anything into that?

Is there any informations on this?

But well its 1. April now so this can also be the first April Joke?

Djekspek, I'm sure our new overlords will happily instruct us as to what's truly best for the site. ;-)

Guys, I asked very nicely that you not disclose the nature of our business deal until AFTER I have "signed on the dotted line." Now because of this oversight, since you couldn't contain your excitement for buying a new Smart Car, I will have to impose some pretty strict rules. I'll introduce them only a couple at a time so as to not give anyone too much anxiety.

New Rule #1: No more hand-drawn maps. We live in a digital age. Get used to it.
New Rule #2: Any map that you post here becomes the property of my company (the company that is buying CG), Maps for Tots Inc. This, by the way, includes all maps that were posted any time before the above mentioned acquisition.

Enjoy the rest of your day. :) Please direct any questions to ImPaidToNotCare@EvilOverlordCorp.edu

The first phase of the transition is now complete. Welcome to My Little Cartographers' Guild!!! There may be some problems with the new look and feel so if something appears broken and you need to revert, there's a dropdown at the bottom left of the page to change back to the old style temporarily...at least until the whole transition is complete.

I love pink, but I can't wear it. It clashes with my horns and barbed tail.

hehe, nice colors :) must say you totally had me. I already had a bad day as I needed to do my quarterly tax-stuff. Then I read this and sort of flipped. It wasn't untill I signed my filled-out taxes forms some hours later and had to put the date on it ... I was like omg... :P

LOL! Hope you were in on the joke Jacktannery or well... just LOL!

Seriously though... all websites should have a My Little Pony theme by law.

Joke?

Is it bad that I actually prefer this colour scheme to the normal one? Is there any way to keep it for those who want to after today? Or should I not even be asking?

Awesome news! do the new owners supply computer upgrades, drafting tables and shackles? Or do we still need to provide our own?

I need to know so I know what I can write off on my taxes.

Magnificent!

At last a successor to that wonderful but banned Forum Ban Game. Let's see if we can keep it going until April 1, 2013!

I didn't see this until today because as soon as I started checking posts yesterday, I saw the color scheme and said, "I'll come back on April 2nd".
