This month's challenge was to map a truly climactic fight scene worthy of film. There were no special requirements other than to make it an epic battlemap, and we have some great entries!

Check them out here:

April Challenge Thumbs (http://www.cartographersguild.com/challenge_thumbs.php?type=regular)

Please vote for ONE entry. The voting will end in 3 days time (May 5). Remember to rep your favorites (and certainly the one you vote for)!

*** Rebooted the voting thread as I had left an entry off the poll (/facepalm). ***

There were several worthy entries this month, but in the end I had to go with Sapiento's (somewhat suggestive) isometric map.

Cheers,

Awesome entries! In the end I went with Bogie's, because that looks like FUN (in fact, I may have to print that out for my game).

Whoa!!!!! It looks like when "Gooseneck Ridge" was added into the Voting, the first 10 Votes got erased. If I am remembering correctly I had 1 vote, Fury had 2, JackTannery had 1, and Sapiento had 6. Can this be fixed on the poll or can those votes get added to the total at the end? Not that I don't mind the boost but it's only fair.

Oh, yeah, and Thanks Gidde and Jfrazierjr for your votes! I have never claimed to be much of an artist, so I make my maps to be fun to play on.

Yeah, I had to restart the voting so that everyone could vote again now that all the entries were in the poll :( That darn Gidde, screwin' up the voting ...

We had a challenge back in June of 2009, I think, that went 3 days into voting, when there was a correction made, and voting had to start over again. So this has happenened before and there is no fix for it, other than running it over again.

Bested once again by a late entry... I gotta learn to not post mine until the very last day. :P

That's the way it goes, I thought it was going to be you & I giving each other a run for the money, right up until Sapiento posted his great map.

Eh, including the challenges that I have won, all my challenge entries are usually done in the first 3 days of the challenge - I never wait for the last minute. I don't think when you post your map has much to do with the voting. It's the map itself that means everything.

Don't feel bad Gidde. After all, the instructions are there for everyone to read and usually one of us here notices if someone forgets to post using the # Latest WIP stuff and we mention it to the entrant. Ah well, now I have vote myself...

Lots of nice entries and some I liked more than others for certain reasons. If I get time I will explain that but in the end I just went with the one I thought would be most likely to use while running my gaming group.

I went for Sapiento's because it looks like something I'd use in a Planescape game...I love Planescape. @Arsheesh: Suggestive?

As for the rest of you: superb stuff, really. They're all great. I especially liked the Ziggurat and the arena. Look as if they'd be fun battle sites. And...a lot of us groan when folks like Sapiento or Djekspek or several others I should mention enter a competition we feel we were doing okay in. :) Oh well. Gives you something to strive for. If one of my maps ever beats one of those pros I will buy myself a bottle of Dom!

These challenge maps are meant for rpg gameplay?
Then I've been doing them wrong

Not necessarily, In most cases it is up to the cartographer. My maps are usually battlemaps made specifically for VTT or Tabletop RGP play, but that is just my choice. The voters more often favor the artistic entries.

This challenge is supposed to be more about pushing yourself to do something new or better than it is about winning.

@Fury: what Bogie said, with the addendum that this particular challenge did lend itself well to that particular use :)

I know that feeling. Sometimes I'm glad I can still do the Lite challenge but then there is always some new upstart that just tears a new one in it. :) On the other hand, I actually really appreciate it when these more established/professionals enter because at the end of the day it's good for the site, it pushes me to my limits and I feel good about every vote I receive. It shows a level of quality you need to be at within the allotted time if you want to play in the big leagues. What I miss lately is seeing more of Ascension's work. *prod prod* Also, when it comes time to vote you always have some really good stuff to view which is awesome.

Hey guys, Sapiento's away from his internet for a couple days but asked me to express his thanks to everyone if he won. So big thanks from Sapiento to all participants and voters!

And in the meantime I'm gonna go refresh my memory on how to give him his compass for when he gets back :)

A deserved award as well. Sap always puts out good work and it's a joy to see what he comes up with next.

@Jacktannery - Sorry about you loosing a vote with the reboot but you gain brownie points for pointing out that someone's entry got dropped from the lists. Way to be a good sport!
