We've all done it as kids: Lay on the grass, look at the clouds rolling by and try to see what sort of animals and shapes we could find. Hopefully, we still take time to do this but I also know life has a way of beating all the fun out of it if we aren't careful. So I say let's be kids again...

Go outside, point your camera to the sky and take a shot of some good looking clouds. Use that image to create your map.

Note: If you don't have a way to take a pic of the sky maybe someone could take a bunch of shots and make them available for anyone in need.

You could go to a bowling alley or bar and stare at the clouds of cigarette smoke. :)

And it's in California where smoking in public places is banned...

maximise contrast, copy layer, select top layer threshold at 74, smooth selection by 2 pixels and delete, colourise both layers. squish :p

better when it's overhead so you don't have patterns of light and darkness due to perspective.

As a kid? Ha - more like three days ago. I caught myself staring as clouds moved across a setting sun, thinking - there's a good bay and peninsula, there's an isthmus. That could be mountains over there....

I'm sort of with you Waldronate - we don't have many cloudy days in the Phoenix area either. I'll have to keep an eye out.

Personally we have Tons of clouds here all year round . Want some ?:P Seriously though I have caught myself looking at clouds both in positive and negative space and found many interesting MAP shapes. Hope this comes to the regular challenge as I can't enter the lite ones any more. Boo Hoo !!:(( For those with out access to their own clouds perhaps any freely available cloud reference Pict could be allowable ??

xoxos : Really cool But No starting before the competition start date !!>:)>:)>:) Tis Not Fair :P:P

This challenge would indeed be a good month to be in Washington. ;)

Except for medicinal purposes ... ;) ... or so I hear. (For the record, that was a joke.)

mine kinda sucked anyway.. i'm guessing it's more a purist thing where one sticks to blue and white, not taking an arbitrary threshold :)

no one ragged on me for having the lighting in the opposite direction for the sea and land

There has been a lot of unusual cloud formations over the last week as a result of converging fronts that haven't quite turned to storms. Some of the resulting clouds types I have "Never" seen before and I've been around awhile !;) I would be happy to post some of the 150+ cloud picts if the Cloud or the other similar suggestion (Real world noise patterns). Happens to be picked. Here is one formation I've never seen before taken off my porch Sunday morning.

Here in Oregon, the problem isn't lack of clouds, it's that a solid overcast might as well be blue sky for all the maps you can make of it. But it's almost July and we're hoping summer will show up any month now. Cross your fingers...
