A map of a flooded coast. I don't have a whole lot of time to play with it, but I'll try to snag some time here and there. We'll see.

Original cloud photo, as a thunderstorm passed by in the evening.

So, yeah. Probably biting off a whole lot of non-chewable-ness with this twist... but, I've never been good at small goals.
You may recognize the shape of the dragon. Basing it off this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Japanese_dragon,_Chinese_school,_19th_Century .jpg).

maybe that's too much contrast. XD

vorropohaiah

Just a tad :) is that made with 2 threshold layers?

Chashio

The difference in contrast? A couple of levels adjustment layers. One above the background, and another above everything. Easily changeable.

Edit: Or did you mean the whole map-from-cloud thing? I just sorta traced it.

Chashio

Toned back the horrible contrast; let me know if it needs more adjusting, will you? Now working on... labels. erm. Unreadable squiggles that pass for labels because I'm too lazy to think up names and 'cause I believe squiggles leave more room for imagination. And... I'm lazy. The ones with dots are spot on their final locations. Sorry. The rest I haven't decided on placement yet.

better than the last version, though personally i still prefer the first version. seems more 'natural'

Someone may have said this or this is just my mind going weird but I like it how the shape of the dragon almost seems to match the shape of the coastline

Yeah, I like doing that kinda thing. =)

I like where you're going with this, particularly the (to me) unreadable vertical script :)

Thanks Lukc! I'm thinking of putting more on, like the bit in the top corner of the ocean but in various places... sorta like little notes or descriptions of the areas or some such. Dunno, maybe too much? Anyhoo, I cleaned up a lot of little details everywhere, bit more on the dragon, added more labels (may move some of them later). I wonder if I should make some distinction between the label dots; before flood = filled circle, after flood = open circle? Might try it. Adjusted the contrast/levels again, too... darker. XD

Looking great Chashio! Really coming together as a whole piece.

Thanks Bogie! =) I'm quite happy with how it's turning out.

Changed some label dots and added a key. Don't know as I'll have much time to do anything else. Any suggestions for making it better (not necessarily for now... but whenever) or more usable for special interest, like game-playing and such, would be very much appreciated. I'm kinda curious what use people put this type of map to. And thanks to everyone who made comments! =)

Looks great! I don't know if it helps your process any, but I usually try to have a story in mind to go with the pic. It keeps me motivated and can take the ol noggin in new directions. Perhaps the rad dragon is the storm dragon responsible for the hurricane that flooded the area. What are the survivors doing to appease or drive away the beast so the waters recede? Just a thought.

haha, well... as long as the dragon is good. ;) Speaking of, I was admiring your avatar earlier today. Sort of Eragon-esk. Yours?

I wish I could do the style you have though, could you point me to some resources that you used to inspire you?

Nicely done.

And cheat you out of some character-building research?! ;) Image search: chinese brush painting. But as technique goes, use a bigger brush and make suggestions of detail instead of defining it. Then sketch. A lot. But really, I like your line-work... very clean and distinctive. The way you combine many types of strokes in your drawing makes things interesting and lively (and that's something I've been trying to consciously meld into my own style).

And I just lost all my brushes. Again. =|

Third time's the charm? Well, you probably won't see me posting anything on here in the near future, as I will, AGAIN, be re-creating all of my brushes and presets. Woohoo!
