Probably going to get my head chopped off ... but I changed my mind about the arena.... I'm going to attempt to put my lighthouse map up as a VTT map... (mainly cause I was going to do this anyway so that I could playtest the adventure)

So far I've only got the walls outlined...

@RP... lol, I just wanted to get something, anything put there.

@Arcana, can you change the title? or do I need to make a new thread and you can delete this one?

It's a learning experience... that is for sure... added some floor coloring and texture to the outside courtyard... and I added a fountain to the central lighthouse floor....

lol... I am such an idiot... I started out with a 1280x1024 map .... and Ijust now noticed that it was 800 x 600 ... I have no idea how it got to that size... but I've been working on it for quite a while like that as you can see...

well.. that's only a week wasted... lol.

I'm gonna go put my head in an oven now...

Too bad about the 800X600 - I liked where this was going too!

Here's your other map resampled, blurred a little, and saved as jpg.

That water compresses well, so the other route might still be open to you.

Thanks meleeguy... once I figured out it was a 800x600 I just quit bothering with compressing it ... what did you use to squish it?

-------

And one more update .... this one is starting to get a little blurry... :o

And another one .. this time ... the right size... figured out what was going on ... it wasn't clipping to my artboard so it was saving it at my monitor size... that's what happened on the last WIP anyways... still don't know how I got the 800x600 file going...

PhotoShop 7, "Save for Web..."

It couldn't improve on your latest though.

Ya.. both my photoshop and illustrator do a pretty good job of squeezing every bit of juice it can to compress something... They are like a couple of 1200 lbs. Gorilla's ... I'll call them Kimbada and Rayray. :D

Added some steps and steps and steps...and stairs... a well, a pathway... So many mixed feelings on doors.. not sure If i'm going to add any ...

"I'm not climbing those things - you do it!" :)

66k and change, not bad! :)

Ya... at least I got the effect of the stairs across ... was afraid people would just mark it up to how bad I am at digital art :D

Hopefully I can furnish the whole thing in under 75k ... maybe.. maybe not.. but I'll try :D

Looking very nice! My only comments are that the trees look a little flat, maybe an internal shadow on one side to give them some volume? What are the yellow things?

delgondahntelius
05-19-2008, 08:08 AM
Ya... I'll try that for the trees...

lol.. those are supposed to be straw pallets or mats... but they just look like big toes with painted nails, eh? .... maybe twinkies... lol

**Tried to fix those trees...

Messed with the trees again .. still doesn't look right to me..
Ditched the twinkie beds and made new cots... at least they don't look like giant yellow toes anymore ... :D

Was able to add debris back to the light house floor with out significant compression issues so far...

Not sure if you're using a vector or raster programme, but one method to try to get the depth in the trees is to just do a diagonal or radial gradient fill from a darker colour to your existing tree colour either to transparency (and place on top of your existing shape) or to the original colour, in which case you can just use your existing shape.

Using illustrator for this project ... so vector... let me try that and see...
