View Full Version : Some Statistic Questions

I just have some questions about the statistics of our little forum and I'll just get right to them:

1. what percentage of the forums population is Female? (This may sound like a sexist question, but I've always been supportive of Minorities gaining popularity, The only person I know on here thats female ((I think)) is Anna)?

2. What percentage of the forum's population is non-Caucasian (aka not white)?

3. What Percentage are non-Americans?

4. What percentage are above the age of 18?

If I'm allowed to know of course, Again these may like bigotry but they are not in any, more like the exact opposite. I've always been interested in Social Demographics in Cultural Niches, specifically Alternative ones like geek sub-cultures

Very odd and searching questions!

1. I think very small, but it's hard to tell with nicks and we don't really ask, we're only really interested about mapping enthusiasm. We did have a brilliant artist/writer who won a previous challenge (the glass ocean), but she came and went. I'd like to think she was Elektra Assassin or someone like that.

2. I'm Indian by descent...so there's one.

3. Who knows? People choose to put their country of origin in their personal info or not. Yours is very exact locationwise :)

4. We did actually have a chat about this on the moderator's forum, only because I thought I was very young at the age of 43! Turns out, I'm not so young after all (drats), and the average age is something like 30 something.

Male, Caucasian, Texan .... (Irish/Native American) and though my physical incarnation this time around has seen 34 years my soul is older than Belgarath and I refuse to actually age until I've perfected the previous year, so that puts me somewhere like 13 .... :D

If I remember correctly (which I might not be), that would put you somewhere over 7000 years old eh?

I would think that the original questions as a list imply that someone needs to study some scripting and go mining the member list for information. I expect that the largest demographic by far will be "decline to state" or "too lazy to fill out", though.

^ True... but at least you can get some sort of indication of people posting here.

1. Male
2. White... of which exact descent, I'm not sure... my folks never really talk about their previous generations.
3. Australian, born and bred. :)
4. 26... and here I am thinking I'd be one of the older ones hehe.

1. Male

2. 1st Generation Japanese American, though I could walk into an American Legion filled with Pacific War veterans, and no one would think I'm anything else than an American. (1/2 Japanese, 1/4 Irish, 3/16 Scottish, 1/16 Amish Dutch (german))

3. I said it above.

4. More than 45, but less than 47... :P

You should add the question if anyone is prior military - because lots are. I was in the US Army back in the mid 80's before the Persian Gulf War. (and Arcana, and Anna, Cartographist is in the Navy right now...)

Anna...according to some of the internet humor websites I hang out at...there are "no womenz on the internets"...So given your welcomed nerdiness, your love of military flight simulators, etc...I'm just going to go ahead and accept that you're really just a 43 yr old confused guy. :P

Cool Arcana. What part of NC? I have lived in NC all my life. In the eastern part for 1st half (Green, Lenoir, Duplin and finally Pitt counties) and been in Raleigh area the second half. My wife is from out of state, but moved to Charlotte in the a long time ago and then to Greensboro and finally arrived in the Raleigh area.

Cool... Only a short hours drive or so from where I live. Did you do your University here in NC, in Florida, or somewhere else? I assume living in FL today it's a scorcher as it's around 100 degrees here in NC today. I felt like I was going to melt walking to work this morning at 8 am (it was already like 88 or so)

I actually have no college degree...I learned all I know while active duty. I got my engineer job based on equivalent experience. Ain't that something ;)

And its not that "hot" outside...but the humidity here makes it feel ridiculously hot.

Haha and I beat all of you in age by not even being old enough to drive....... oh wait , that actually is supposed to suck. still I feel kinda weird, you know like a child at a nightclub or something like that (Said in the fact that I have been the only child in a Nightclub many times). Again I'm surprised by everyone just straight up writing who they are.

Okay, I suppose I'll contribute.

I'm a 33-year-old white male from Kansas.

Since you're interested in statistical data, I'll provide some that bucks normal trends: I'm an evangelical Pentecostal Christian, a comparatively rare species among role gamers thanks to some bad press in the 80's. That's probably the main reason I don't often play D&D: that brand name raises questions that roleplaying in general does not.

Yes but I meant that apparently all my peers tell me that it is supposed to suck being a teenager, and all the adults around me say that teenagers think being a teen sucks. I was not aware of this, All this time I had been acting as if this had so far been the best time of my life. imagine that.

RPMiller

I went through my teen years thinking the same way as you Arkkeeper. It wasn't until a decade later that I started hearing that I wasn't supposed to have enjoyed that time. Go figure. I chalk it up to the fact that I had RPGs and scifi/fantasy books to get lost in on a frequent basis and enjoy my freetime. I think many teens only have their electronic friends to turn to and be emo with. ;)

Yeah, I kept hearing that, too. And how I was supposed to hate my parents. But I had wonderful, caring and wise parents who helped to make my teenage years quite tolerable.

In fact, my adolescence was so enjoyable that I decided to go ahead and extend it a few years. 14 years so far, and I still have no intention of growing up.

My guess is that teens typically feel that they are capable of doing many things, but not allowed the opportunity. This leads to feelings of being trapped and forced to "play along with the adults' rules."

I think you are an exception to this becasue you seem to be given the opportunity to explore and attempt the things that interest you. Thus none of the bad feelings.

Like I said, just a guess.

3. US Citizen (living just outside of London)

1. Nick Kristof

2. I'm half white. What now!?

3. Canadian, with like 7 different nationalities.

4. Not me -_-

Color? Grey, followed by some metallic blue or some red variation.

Male, 37, American, and adopted (I do know that my mom was Polish and Russian -- Dlugos, they have a town named after them in Poland -- Dlugopole, and I know my father's last name, Nailer, which is French and English so I tracked the genealogy as far back as 1066 but it turns out that he was adopted too from possible Serbian parents so I don't really know). No military, just a MA in psychology which does not get used as I am a stained glass artist.

I really enjoyed being a teen, I have 11 siblings, so it was easy to disappear, in fact by the time I was 16 I had been to 21 countries by myself (It was safer in Europe and the neighboring regions then, I guess, I am leery of travel now), my parents only conditions for travel were, raise the money myself, (so I fell, cut and split a lot, a real lot, of firewood), and have a written plan they could review, and call home,,,,not many phones way up north in Norway, and miss less than a term of school per year.
Once I grew up and joined the Air Force I got sent 5 more countries which were great, and saw a lot of sand.....which blows...and blows...
After retiring I am a teen again, I don't drive, I watch cartoons, and play with puppets.

yeah another below 18, I think it's actually a good thing for people to share their Identities online, if it's a place that seems safe. the thing is I haven't a single place that isn't safe. I'm not falling for any scams or anything, I'm not going to try date somebody I met online, And everything else has NO way of turning your info against you. plus if your on facebook then most of your information is already online anyways.
