Hey guys,

I'm currently working on trying to reproduce an Old School style, used by some famous french artists.
I haven't seen on the boards anything that uses similar reliefs (so far) so I though it would be interesting to share.
Anyway, I'm gonna finish up the black and white version and give a try at coloring it

Hope you'll enjoy
more coming soon ;)

Very interesting and nice! I'm looking forward to it. Do you have any links to some of the old maps references you talked about?

Thanks for your comments guys,

As you're french you may know about the old magazine Tatoo. The first 4-5 issues proposed stuff for RuneQuest and the artist Guillaume fournier was one of the illustrators.
You should find on the web references about Boldhome, Sartar and a city called Refuge. He's worked on other projects but I can't remember the the name of it, for now ...

Here is a small update.
It's winter around here and I'm enjoying snowboarding. For a change, it's good to live around the mountains ^^

More coming asap ;)

Thanks for your comments, here is a nice update ;)
It's taking shape.

Now, I need to think at least twice on how to add colours ...

Lineart is done.
Now, the nice part, rendering, shadows and possibly more :/
We'll see how it goes...

Turning out lovely! Maybe the towers and the defense wall looks a bit computer generated regarding the overall lineart?

Quite true actually. I see what I can do with them ;)

My main concern at the moment is to decode whether I draw the roofs or not.
I'll show you an example but it looks too small or odd to me... :/

What's the map's size? Maybe a simple line with a shaded/dark roof section would be enough?

Dain

It's A4, 300dpi, so 3508 X 2480
Find it attached.

I just started the roofs and I can't get a fair opinion of it :/
What do you reckon?
I've got everything under layer so easy to adjust opacity and so forth.

Looks good at screen size but on the original A4 size, not sure, it may lack a bit of a contrast.

Same with my 27' iMac. It's good on screen but when printed, it too dark :/

Maybe try to lower opacity of both shaded and enlightened roofs parts and put the little lines on the darker one to make the contrast?

Wow that's looking pretty cool so far. Your buildings are excellent and it looks like a big city. The mountains/cliffs, however, might benefit from some more work.

Thanks for the comments,
There are some other things that bother me at the moment like the fact that we don't really see properly the buildings to the East and the mountains are probably too dark as well.

Hmm, It sounds I'm gonna redo some mountains, hills around the buildings :/

I am liking this map so much that I registered just so I could tell you! It is certainly going to be fantastic when all's said-and-done. The only thing I thought could use improvement was the hills/mountains, but it seems you're already working on that :) I'm glad I found this site!

Very Nice! Maybe you could add a bridge between the city and the island upper right (next to the port, between the two rivers)
