Originally started in Regional Maps (http://www.cartographersguild.com/regional-world-mapping/22207-relational-map.html) but moved to here since it's in Sketchup.

This is the gimped map that I drew up based on the original which was done on graph paper. I like the blocky style because it's A) easy to do and B) suggests that not every race draws their maps the same way. Since it's so angular and blocky I'm going with the idea that it's a Gnomish or Dwarven map.

From there I imported the image into gimp and started to cut it up into different elevations.
I'm still working on adding detail and basic topography but this is where I'm going. The whole idea came from watching the opening of the Game of Thrones tv series and realizing that their use of basic geometric shapes help you get the sense of scale where everything is (depending on the season) so you know where the story is happening.

that's all I'm really looking to do with this sketchup map.

Still workin. :)

Impressive map. I've never thought of using sketch-up like that. What are the dimensions of it?
