Not sure if anyone is aware of this site (or if its even been posted here before) but its a massive collection of maps, and if you create an account (free) you can download very high-res images of all of them.

David Rumsey collection (http://www.davidrumsey.com/)

i've found some really detailed images here that are simply a joy to pour over. hope someone else finds the site interesting

note: you'll need this part of the site (http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/view/all?res=1&sort=Pub_List_No_InitialSort) to brose images

there's also a google earth viewer in which you can browse the maps in 3d.

great stuff!

I've known about the collection for years. I've already download 5 gigs worth. The old Fire Insurance maps are providing techniques that are working well for my chosen scale. I believe I have a map on here drawn using a style I made from David Rumsey's collection.

I believe the guy who owns it lives in San Francisco or nearby.
