View Full Version : [CG Choice Map] City of Galastan

Another city in my old campaign setting.

Hand-drawn on A3 paper using micron pens, pencils and a lot of erasers. The legend at the bottom was done digitally.

The initial inspiration came from the Italian town of San Gimignano, which is known for its many towers. Apparently, rich families tried to outdo each other by building ever higher towers to display their awesomeness.

No childish fantasies were harmed in the making of this map. Hope you enjoy!

A big thank you to everyone who helped me out with their comments and suggestions.

The fact that it is handdrawn sells this one for me. Also the San Gimignano reference - Tower Envy!

Yes, I wonder what Dr. Freud would say about that town :P

It's called Aquiline 2. I forgot where I found it, tho ...

The details are amazing and I like your use of pointillism in the background.

04-15-2013, 09:59 AM
I love this style of map, you got more?

05-14-2013, 10:04 PM
I love the scale and the perspective. If I look at it long enough, I almost expect to see small specs of people moving around. Very well done. :)

It's simply a great map.
I got lost in details and woke up weeks later. ;)
I like the background.

The borders are a bit uninspiring though.

Beautiful all the way around! I'm a fan of the hand drawn approach, and it takes something special to pull it off this well. More maps, indeed!

Simply one of the best "old town maps" I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot!).
And you know what? I've been to San Gimigniano last summer!

I agree - more please ~

Nice old thread bubbled up again, here. And for good reason.
Great map, can see the massive amount of care and labour that has gone into it.

I just spent an enjoyable 30 mins reading through the original WIP thread. Ace.
Would love to have a rough idea of how many hours of effort went into the piece in total. It looks like a colossal undertaking.

Beautiful! I can only guess how many hours of hard work have gone into this beuty :)

Thanks peeps :D

I don't really remember how many hours went into it. I do remember I spent a lot of them just staring at the drawing, not sure what to do. XD
