I'll use the forth map as base for this; I'm planning to do a more painterly style.

Some progress on the map. Now I have to think how to fill the relatively empty space where the marshes are (is this allowed for the challenge?).

Really nice mountains and forests but Im less convicted by the icy thing. For the forests it is just some blur you applied on them?

I agree, awesome mountains!
Maybe they're a bit huge. Or at least i was looking at the map with a different scale in mind ;)

Thanks.
I will have to work on the glaciers. I used the clone stamp tool for the forest - maybe a stronger stroke could define the single elements better.

I had only a rather small region in mind, a few dozen kilometers wide.

I think the forests are nice I like this little " blurry" touch on them.

I had only a rather small region in mind, a few dozen kilometers wide.Unfortunately your scale is sort of mandated by the fact that you have discrete mountain ranges. It can't realistically be less than several hundred KM.

Yeah, I kind of have to agree with that...

The size of the land wasn't very important for me when I started to sketch the map elements, so let it be a few hundred km.

A first idea for city icons added.

Nice, looks like it's very consistent with the map :)

I really like how this is looking but I can't help but think the ice at the bottom looks more cloud-like than ice-like.

I completely revised the glaciers.

I guess this is more or less finished. I have somewhat lost the drive for this map.

I don't know but the map looks a bit empty (not that emptyness is a bad thing but...). Also not fond of the labels stroke but it's just personnal taste I guess. By the way, nice map as usual :)

True.
It tried to follow the original map. I didn't really succeed as I placed settlements where they shouldn't belong. If I now start to add additional elements that have no base in the original map, then I guess I miss the point of this challenge. That's the reason why I probably won't do much more with this entry.
It was a bad choice from the beginning, I should have used another map.
By the way, thank you! ;-)

Working a bit on contrast/colors on the lands may help to avoid the empty feeling?

For what it's worth, I think it looks pretty decent. Like Max said, it feels a little empty though. Also, I don't think you had to slavishly follow the base map to the last pixel; it said use a DF map as a source.

I added more detail to the map.
