...according to IO9. They've obviously never been here.

Okay, not to sound mean or forceful, but the lack of credit to tear in that Westeros map ****ed me off.

As for the rest, you're right. They obviously haven't looked hard.

Well, it's IO9. They don't look hard at anything. They do make a lukewarm attempt though, which is better than 90% of the other sites out there on the great wild interwebs... :D

That was my thoughts when I saw the article a few days ago.

Rather than "The most Incredible" I would take this list to be "Iconic" maps.

Myself I'm partial to Ultima's maps. They were REAL maps that you got in your box.

I also enjoyed answering the map challenge at the beginning of U7 without looking at the map. Because by the 3rd replay, I knew most location's coordinates by heart.

Ouch. The only map there I'd take a second look at is the one of Middle Earth. As you guys have mentioned already, the vast majority of maps here are much better!

Word!

You might call them classics and just move on. That's what I do for most books (Dostoevsky anyone?).

This is a much better place for fantasy maps:

Although I am VERY partial to the Wonderful WoG poster map (the original still hangs in my "office") I would say that for quality, the Guild has it hands down. :)

In general I find the Pathfinder maps to be really incredible. The large-scale city ones must require massive amounts of patience.

Both links have pretty awsome maps...

personally I think Jo Hartwig's Middle-Earth Map (for MECCG) and the Maps for the Dark Eye/Realms of ArKania were the most stunning Fantasy maps I've seen.

The Arkania Maps have an adorable relief effect http://aventuriens-welt.de/bilder/karten/nivesen_west.jpg
and Jo Hartwig's map... well I just think it's probably the most detailed ME Map I#ve ever seen. This map is just a little bit of his big continental map:http://fanmodules.free.fr/Our%20Resources/Maps/Realms%20maps/mordor-hq.jpg

Agreed, it's on my Google reader list (let it rest in peace).

Most of those did not impress... Great is pretty subjective anyways, but some of those were just bad...
