No, this is not a joke.

I mapped telescopes in space, and now If you send a tweet, I could be going to the Nastar Center for spaceflight training and going to see a space launch in November.

To vote - here's the super quick twitter link! https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=I%20vote%20%23spacecalnyc%20for%20%40sp aceapps%20People%27s%20Choice%20Award!

Two weeks ago I went to the NYC NASA space apps hackathon. My team created an application that allows you to explore what telescopes are looking at and when. The site collates a ton of telescope data in one place, unifies it, and makes it pretty - as well as being accessible for astrophysicists. And yes - it includes a map of space.

We won the NYC hackathon, and we're in the running for the global challenge, along with 133 other teams. There are 4 'best in class' awards and a public choice. The public voting started yesterday and runs to the 17th of May. To vote, you need to send a tweet to @spaceapps and include the hashtag for the project. For ours it's #spacecalnyc . As far as I can tell, you can only vote for one project.

Check out our project page, with a video showing how the app works: Space Cal NYC | International Space Apps Challenge (http://spaceappschallenge.org/project/space-cal-nyc/)

And here's the video:

The live site is here: International Space Apps Challenge: My Space Cal (http://spacecalnyc.com/) (note that you can double click to zoom in)

Of course, we think ours is the best, but you should definitely check out the other entries. There were some very cool things to come out of that weekend. Here's the full list from around the world: Awards | International Space Apps Challenge (http://spaceappschallenge.org/awards/)

Is twitter the only way to vote on this?

05-05-2013, 08:57 AM
Unfortunately, yes. It's a twitter only vote.

I'll get my missus to vote for you as I'm not on Twitter. I guess I could also register and do it myself as well although... please tell me it isn't in the articles that I have to follow Kim Kardashian if I do! :D

05-05-2013, 03:19 PM
Made myself a twitter account and tweeted.

Resisted the urge to follow Piers Morgan /sarcasm

Good Luck Torstan!!!

You absolutely do not have to follow Kim Kardashian, or Piers Morgan :)

If you're a gamer type and you're joining twitter you might enjoy following:
@theangrydm @d20blonde and @geekylyndsay

They're usually chatting about fun RPG related stuff.

I would love to vote for you but I don't do twitter. I have an instagram account for my close family and friends and that's about 12 people. Other than that I barely look at all that social media stuff. I waste enough time just reading emails and looking up stuff on the internet, I just don't have time for another time chewer. I'm sorry man. I hope you still win.

No worries - I totally understand :)

Like Jax, I have too many things eating away at my time. Twitter has now served its purpose and I shall not look at it again!

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as Jax. Beyond this site and the Obsidian Portal, Facebook is the only form of social media I am involved in, and frankly that's plenty enough for me. Wish you the best though.
