View Full Version : Google Maps esque mountains

There are tuts galore here on how to draw mountains, but what I haven't seen yet is how to draw them like Google Maps depicts them. (the maps, not the satellite or Earth images).

I'm working on a map that I want to depict in this style, and the mountains are the part I'm having trouble with. Here is a screenshot from Google Maps to give an ideal of what I'm talking about.

Bonus points for the person who identifies where this is. (Easy question)

Try Relief Shading (http://www.reliefshading.com) or Shaded Relief Home (http://www.shadedrelief.com) - the first one has more general information and good descriptions of the Swiss style of shaded relief. It's also possible to use a shading tool like Wilbur ( software (http://www.ridgenet.net/~jslayton/software.html) ) to generate this sort of thing.

Here's an example of a synthetic DEM with a basic shader that's then intensity range compressed in Photoshop. I should tweak the software to do this directly.
