I'll map the world of Nehwon from Fritz Leiber, from his series (title Le cycle des Epées in french don't know the original title) composed of seven books : Swords and Deviltry, Swords in the Mist, Swords Against Wizardry, Swords of Lankhmar, Swords and Ice Magic and The Knight and Knave of Swords.

Here's what I got at the start

Hey max, I realy like your recent use of textures on this one and Oraven, it realy add to the feeling.

Thanks :) Yup I'll go on Oraven style on this one, this will really fit the sword and sorcery feel of Leiber's Nehwon (at least this would be closed of what I imagine about this world)

Looking awesome, man. Hey, did you read the graphic novel by Mike Mignola & Howard Chaykin put out by Dark Horse comics? They've got a cool looking map in there.

Thanks Diamond :) yes I read them, cool simple map indeed and I like the drawing style aswell. I have the 2nd, 3rd and 4rd graphic novels books but I couldn't get my hand on the first one, seems like it's an expensive collector one now!

Awesome choice of font, by the way. Is that Mirkwood?

- Max -

Thanks guys :)
@Arsheesh : All I needed was some inspiration about challenge theme and some time :)
@Diamond : Yes it is. I also used Throrian commonface for the points of interest (Ruins of Sardath and Sea king's lair on this part), which has a close fell to Mirkwood.

Good fonts are not easy to choose. I guess I overuse Roman Antiqua italic and the IM Fell family to much, but still like them.

the whole lands with southern half part of the map added.

This look really great, I especially like the forest. How did you do them?
When I see this months contributions I'm glad I don't have the time to join in. All maps looks fantastic.

Thanks Clercon :) the forest are some patterns of my own on which I apllied a combination of overpainting and filters then I turned them into new patterns. Once some several blocks patterns are cloned on the map I make some slight dark area on a new layer under the forest one. then I apply 2 highlights made with a custom brush (same color but pressure, opacity and size of the brush different on the 2 highlights). Hope that's clear :/

Lol, I was thinking about getting into this challenge after so much time away, but then I see this and go like "Nah, nevermind." :P

A very good map -Max-, love this mountain and forest style. Too bad I haven't read the books yet =/

:D thanks much Beoner but come on, let's join in! Btw the Leiber's books about Nehwon and Lankhmar telling the adventures of Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser are quite old, the first one was published in 1976 (and were written way before that time) if I recall well but it's a reference in sword and sorcery style. The setting was adapted weveral times for D&D and AD&D over the years and lately for the Runequest survival in 2007.

Thanks for explenation Max. Sounds complicated, but I think I've got the idea of what you do. And most of all, I think I might be able ro work something out of it that I can use myself.

This is a great entry Max, glad you finally decided to enter a challenge. While there is much that I like about this map, I think one of my favorite parts is the broken up glaciers to the northwest.

Cheers,

There was no space between the hash tags and 'Latest WIP'; it was stopping the scraper from reading it properly.
