Hey Daelin, it's not a map, it is an excellent map :). Everything fits very well and since a long time it is the first map I've downloaded to check it closely.

Wow, this is beautiful. I love it!

Any chance there will be coming a world or at least a regional map for this world? I see you have a small one in the lower right hand corner. I'd like to see more of it :)

This must be the understatement of the year.

Very impressive and evocative. The city is great but for me I really like how your surrounding farmland looks. I find it difficult to produce satisfying looking farmland. Will have to borrow a bit from that!

I also really like the round shields and the two-colour icons/heraldry/whathaveyou.

That's fantastic in every aspect. I think those might be the most well-done farmlands I've seen.

At the top of the thread, it says "rate this thread" doing this will give this map a space on the home screen it deserves!

Wonderful stuff. This may seem a strange comment, but I like your depiction of the farmlands in the northern area most of all.

The map is just a one-off. I haven't put any thought to the world in which it is set. The regional map in the corner is made for this map, and is just a randomly generated landmass, to give the larger map some placement. I'll probably not expand on this setting, because, you know, real life and stuff.

Yeah, a few people have mentioned that. Funny thing is, the farmlands were more of an afterthought. After I'd done the city itself, the surrounding area felt kind of empty. So I found some inspiration in the awesome Carthusal (http://www.cartographersguild.com/cartographers-choice/5920-carthusal-aerius.html)and Port Tinker (http://www.cartographersguild.com/cartographers-choice/5918-port-tinker-still-pond.html) maps, reworked the layout to fit with the style of my map, and there you go.

The only criticism I can think of is how planned the streets are. If it was a planned city, I want to see MORE of the culture planning it! :D Maybe a rival culture on a different coastline, or some landlocked place with mineral resources... Sounds fun to me... A lot of work, too, but fun...

Oh yeah, i was thinking about trying a city map, sure! You know, i have this big cool city from a campaign of mine, it should work...

Then i looked the map of Maffaton.

Now i am thinking about learning how the **** people makes maps like this one.
And then maybe i'll give a try...

A wonderful map!

By the way: why "Maffaton"?
In italian it has a really curious sound... don't take me wrong, but it is similar to some slang words, related to "mafia" :D
in some zones, the word "maffata" is used as a shortened version of the slang "mafiosata", meaning more or less "an action in mafia style". So if i should use "maffaton" as a city name with my players, probably they will start laughing and asking if there are shady guys with a coppola at the street corners :D

Time.

I'm not Italian. But hey, maybe in Swahili "Maffaton" sounds vaguely like "Maffedon" which means something like "really cool city map that some dude made on his computer because he has no life." Then the name makes total sense. Who knows.

ahahah maybe we should ask to someone with the knowledge of swahili :D

However: it's not only time, if you ask me!
The details, like the city pavement, or the small trees in the gardens; the appealing colors; the quality even of the small map in the corner... all of this speak loudly about "skill" :)

Relic Kimah is right, it does seem a very "planned" city, but that serves to make it more intriguing. I love the textures and drawing style you've made use of.

The nomenclature is interesting, too - bits from lots and lots of different random bits of European esoterica. Very fantasy, makes me wonder what the people are like, and how they come to name their places so.

Wow, this map is pretty cool.

I'm sure everyone else has already listed what they like best. I just think it works well together overall, which is fairly important.

it does seem a very "planned" city
Wouldn't it be clever of me if I could justify the planned aspect by writing 23 paragraphs of fanciful exposition on the city's history and the lore and whatnot? Truth is, I just like coming up with long-winded and utterly silly names for my streets, and so I needed the streets to be long and rather straight just to fit all the letters. A personal favorite of mine is "Blessed Song of the Titan's Eye Boulevard". Or how about "General Saupran Scanoslausington Avenue"?
Silly, I know.
