View Full Version : The World of [..Help me find a name..]

I got hooked to D&D through Rollplay a while back. I started a group and ran a pregen module but now I want to start my own campaign in my own world.

So I combined some tutorials I found here and started mapping.
Im pretty satisfied with the results, but i got some problems with name finding and finding interesting features for the world.
Any suggestions for World/City/River etc names are greatly appreciated!

Link to map( Its work in progress, I add tile by tile): click me (http://www.patrick-hofmann.ch/map/map.php)!

Try find a name generator, or try combining syllables with the characteristics of the name you want. for example, "desert" names: Halik, Al Jamur, Zoab, Minaj. "norse" names: Hoshtag, Throndheim, Gorland, Haeronland. good names for a world are: Asvalon, Thoron, Arganor, Gorion. This is in my opinion, but it is best you use a world name generator. And nice map!

Get an idea of what the people living in your world think about the world and what it means to them: Is it a cradle? A homestead? A refuge?
Then try to find a language that makes the term you selected cound cool - Latin works most of the time for me :)

Kind regards,

Thanks for the input =)
The whole lore etc is another thing i have to come up with. But I can start there with only the region my players are at at the moment. =)
Added a new Tile today and a new mountainrange/redirected a river to make the dessert more plausible.

Fantasy Name Generator (http://www.rinkworks.com/namegen/) gives you lots of names, not all of them are very good, but with like 50 a page, you can probably find a couple you like. I also enjoy how it gives you different types of names (short, long, vowel heavy, etc...)

Good luck!

I use a website called Behind the name: Behind the Name: Meaning of Names, Baby Name Meanings (http://www.behindthename.com/)

It give the meaning of the names, so you can choose a name that way. It's good to have a great meaningfull name.

Behind the name is only for people names, or am I missing something?

Yes, you are right. It's mostly for people.

Nice Link ..

Behind the Name: Meaning, Origin and History of the Name Sanjana (http://www.behindthename.com/name/sanjana)

Means "uniter, creator" in Sanskrit.

Not an improper name for a world, imo ..

Really like that one! Thanks!
But i dont want it to be an actual name and I like the sound of Sajana.
So the world is named Sajana =)
I will add a new tile tomorrow I think, currently i`m searching for a texture for swamps.
Also i think i need some more mountain textures so they are not all red mountain and some mountains need snowy peaks.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to make the textures, so I keep on searching =)
