This is the basic outline for the first continent. I have...3 other main places I need to outline, but I have sketches of them all.

Tell me what you think ^_^

All right, that's what I have for now. Not sure if I'm happy with the placement completely, but at least it's something.

I printed out the three atrocities I made last night. Cut some stuff out, added some stuff in.

Though I'm not too sure about the rivers atm.

The continents look good I think, A little too uniform in size but their shapes and placements are interesting and realistic. For the details, take your time, and sketch with an erasable pencil first, I'd say. The rivers look like they flow how they should, but you have lots of lines making up a single river when you really only need one line.

I concur with Lingon. I would also recommend creating a new layer over them, making the map transparent and tracing over the coasts a bit to give them a tad more detail. Right now they're a bit too straight, at least for my taste.

Also, I think adding islands to fill out the oceans a bit would be an awesome addition.

I can't wait to see how this develops!

Ah, thank you guys! I really appreciate the feedback :]

I'm going to look at more maps to get a better idea of how the coastlines should look--at the moment they are too straight, but I just wanted to have a general idea of what it'd look like. Now I can sketch over what I have and see what I get.

Islands are definitely a thing I plan on adding. Right now, I was only focusing on getting the main continents done. After that comes the islands, I think. As far as size goes, I'm not sure how big I'll keep things. I've just been working on 16k by 16k at 300 dpi--though I haven't thought much about scaling yet. I probably should.

Also, thank you for the feedback on the rivers--I was unsure of if they'd look realistic as is. I'll straighten them out and hopefully they'll look more believable.

No problem!

If you need an example of coastlines, I'd offer my own map out of lack of knowing any others. It has its own problems, but I've been complimented on my coasts and islands, so it might help!

Oh yes, I remember that from last night. You're the dude that did the sexy islands.

Also, this is my first map too! -brofist- We can be noobs together :P

I tried to make the coastlines look more jagged---what do you guys think?

Looks much better than the simple coastlines. I always love the little capes and bays on a map.
Don't go overboard, though; these are continents. Most continental-scale maps don't show small inlets or peninsulas.
Basically what I am trying to say is that you don't want it to look like you started with a simple outline and then traced along it with a zigzagging pattern.

Figured I'd post this before I went to class.
Tried to make it less...whatever it was, lol.
The third contintent I sketched in without much though, but I need to head to class lol.

Added some islands and stuff. This is basically what I need as far as the thing I'm writing goes--I'm not sure if I just want to crop it or populate the blank parts of the map.

Either would work... or you could leave it, and those uncharted lands could just be as-yet-undiscovered? :)

I like the latter idea a bit more--I think I'll add in a few more islands to make it look less plain and then work on making the rivers/doing elevation stuff.

Thank you for the great idea Jalyha <3

Don't fall into the "I need to fill the space" syndrome people can have. If your world doesn't need any more islands, or especially if it may have more unknown lands, don't change it.
I think it looks fine the way it is.

Yeah, I'm not going to add in any other stuff.

I've been sick so I haven't made any progress. Nose won't stop running so I guess now is a good time to work on this.

Somewhat annoyed because I can't decide the general aesthetics I want my map to have.

That and coloring it seems hella daunting at the moment. So I've been dicking around with this--she'll be on some heraldry so. Somewhat relevant, I guess.

Just kinda butting around with colors.

The ocean is way too dark blue, but it's just a placeholder.

Did the coastal rings from that rad tutorial to give it a try.
