These are some encounter maps for my home-brew sandbox campaign that will start up in a few weeks. All were done with gel pens on graph paper then scanned in to Gimp to get rid of the lines.

Love these old TSR style maps and the illustrations you've put with them are brilliant. It's a shame that the scan and magnified size roughs up the linework, but for a magazine size for a GM map these are wonderful. Great job.

Nice old school stuff. It looks too pixellated though.

Yeah, I see that. Should I have scanned them in at a higher resolution? I did them 600 dpi.

It's not the scan, it's the medium, as you're drawing ink on paper it picks up the bleed. The only way to get the smooth edges would be to painstakingly tidy it up digitally (there's some tweaks and tips you can do here and there, but ultimately it's going round the whole image and tidying it up by cutting out the ink), or draw it digitally in the first place (I'd personally recommend you pick up a Wacom tablet, even a cheap Bamboo would be well worth it as you have the talent).

Essentially you drew the original at 72dpi to scale, then you tried to blow it up to 600dpi, it's the same as taking a normal image then just blowing it up to a size it was never originally designed for. Photoshop can handle some upscaling, but you will always lose quality.

These are good illustrations for a game even if the quality could be better as the others said.

Despite the scaling issues, I really like them, they have a lot of character.
