Hello everyone. This month's challenge will dovetail with the 2014 One Page Dungeon Contest (http://www.onepagedungeon.info/one-page-dungeon-contest-2014). For anyone not familiar with this contest, the basic idea is to create a fully mapped and keyed dungeon that fits onto one side of a letter or A4 sheet of paper (this may be done digitally). There are no genre requirements and no hard and fast rules about what counts as a dungeon (or how large it should be). You can however get a better feel for the concept by reading the history (http://www.onepagedungeon.info/entrance/history) of the one page dungeon and by looking through entries from past years.

The nice thing about this particular monthly challenge is that whether or not you win you will be able to resubmit your entry to the 2014 OPC as well. All winning entries will be published in an annual booklet form and there are some fun prizes as well. Just an FYI, if you do decide to submit to the 2014 OPC the entry must have a creative commons licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/). As per usual, please include the following to your entry thread:

Title each new thread March 2014 Entry - <your title>

Precede each WIP image with the tag ### Latest WIP ###.

The contest will end sometime around the first of April and the winner shall receive a golden compass and fame and fortune beyond anyone's wildest imagination.

This is perfect, absolutely perfect, I was planning on entering the 2014 one page dungeon contest, and I haven't started yet - this gives me the boost I needed.
On a side note - I can enter in both, correct? ;)

Is it cheating if I already have notes for my entry? Or is this one of those captain Kirk change the rules so you can win things?

Title each new thread February 2014 Entry - <your title>

That would be "Title each new thread March 2014 Entry - <your title>", correct? :)

Ordinarily the entire project would need to be completed within the scope of the challenge time-frame. However this is a special case since the 2014 One Page Contest submission date began beforehand. Unless any other CLs have objections, I'm happy to make an exception here to the effect that any OPC entries still in their embryo form (that's vague I realize) can still be submitted to this month's challenge as well.

Ack! I always seem to do that. Serves me right for relying on copy and paste shortcuts. Thanks for the catch.

Keep in mind that, as Arsheesh said this contest ends April 1, but the One Page Dungeon Contest ends April 30th.

Also, from my experience, the OPC is not a mapping contest. While one of the categories is "Best Map", they really are more about the overall dungeon as it is written.

I may give this one a shot.

I was planning on entering the One Page Dungeon Contest, so I feel I have to enter this one. Perhaps the shorter time limit will do me some good.

I would really encourage everyone to enter this. It's great fun and if you ever need a quick adventure to play - just go to the 1 page dungeon website and look through the entries of previous years.

Good, good. I have thought only on the dungeon story for the Contest, so now I'm going to get the map done for both the Challenge and the contest. :)

I needed an excuse to start my entry this year. I'm not sure what I'll do this time around though.

Quick question (possibly long answer): looking through the entries for the OPDC, they all seem to make reference to 'enemies'... Are these 'enemies' from DnD or some other role-playing thing or do we just make stuff up that fits in with the dungeon? Do they have to have stats? Oh, and how flexible are we about 'dungeon'? Can this be something other than an underground, fantasy-style smelly old prison of sorts? Three questions there, then :)

They can be whatever you want. Giving them stats isn't really recommended as the OPD is (ideally) system independent. You can look back through the older entries and see examples of things people have done - not all of them are dungeons or even all fantasy.

Hmm... Is this supposed to be like. 1 page for the dungeon map and 1 page for the rooms and all of that extra flavor? I might join. I've been doing lots of dungeon mapping this/last week. :D

No it's just supposed to be 1 side of one page. Everything, the map and the room key, all of it, needs to fit on that one page.

Cool. 1 page then... I gotta figure out how I'm going to key stuff and write the encounters on the one page.
Maybe not... Feels like too much pain and effort trying to fit everything to one page. :D

Dumb question- exactly what size is considered a "page"? Standard American 8.5x11 inches? Or could it be legal sized 8.5x14? Or 11x17?

210x297mm is standard A4 size

there you see, I told you it was a dumb question!:)

thanks. I may or may not try this one. Honestly, I am not a rpg player so don't have much of a feel for this. I mean, a map I could do....the accompanying text to make it into some kind of playable scenario would be the challenge.

You don't have to do a fantasy RPG, you can do any type of setting. Make a map of your neighborhood and have the encounters be with vicious landlords, deadly stray dogs, and your neighbors. Part of the nice things about the OPD is that you don't need to include any stats or the like, in fact its discouraged so that it will work for any system (or no system at all).

Y-you should keep this challenge up until like the 5th, so I can get my last minute project in.

Well eVile I can't keep it up that long but I will be out of town till the third and won't be able to close out the contest till then, so you do have a few more days to work on it ;).
