This didn't start out as a heightmap. ;)

Nice one !
Like the style but you seem to like the sparks.

It was a NASA photo of a nebula, hence the numerous spires (bright stars). :P

Love the idea! Star brightness being a measure for height - this is actually brilliant!

One small, tiny remark: the starbursts are maybe a bit strange. You could decide to remove those, since they aren't actually showing the brightness of that particular pixel, but rather the physical imperfections of the lens. While those bursts look lovely on a picture, they don't have any added value brightnesswise - or heightwise, in case of your map ;)

Yeah, I might redo it with the starbursts erased or at least blurred out a bit.

That would be awesome!

The Crab Nebula came out looking kind of weird. I might have another go at it using different techniques.

This is pretty genial! It works really well. Though I have to say, I think the sea is way to dark. It makes it look like a space map, when it would be better if it only vaguely felt like a space map, if that makes sense.

That looks pretty good! What did you use to make it?

I had a go at colourising it. :)

That's infinitely better than what I managed; it was just an eye that I imported into wilbur, then ran a few erosion cycles and you just gave us the end result
