View Full Version : June 2014 Entry - City of Fingard

06-10-2014, 03:10 PM
Hey there guys, so for this months challenge, I decided to work on my B&W skills.
I never done one before, and Max initial setting gave me the boost I needed to try something. So for this map, I`m going double, one with the region around Fingard, and another one with the city map.

Initial steps, hope you guys like:

Looking good so far. As the unofficial wip Deputy I must Inform you that You Absolutely MUST put ( ### LATEST WIP ### ) before your picture so that the thumb scrubber can find it !

I like the iconic work on the map. Funny to see the black and white version. I just finished my own version of it....a black and white one ;)

This is looking good. Really like the row of watch towers guarding the Bridas Lake lowlands from those horrible, nasty... enemy type things that I'm sure are lurking in the south west. Also... what font is that? I like it lots!

Thank you guys!
thanks for the reminder, I always forget :D.

@Max, I bet your finished B&W version is better than mine :P

@Meshon, the font I used for the lake and terrain is BlackFlag, and the one for the Fingard title is MoriaCitadel! Also, you are right, those watchtowers are exactly for that haha

Hey guys, quick update.

I really like the style and variability of the points of interest icons. The line-work in the city is very clean and sharp, clearly communicating what it should. I have a lot of appreciation for the overland symbology you're using for the lowland areas, making them look moorish/swampy. Oops, not "moorish"...let's say "moor-like." I'm still evolving my own swampy look.

Very nice concept to it. Keep going!

Hey guys, another update! Creating the labels, and final touches.

That looks really nice!

I'm really liking this map! The fonts work well with the style of the map, the icons look fantastic (would you consider releasing them as a standalone set?) and the city looks appropriately 'organic,' while remaining clean, organized, and pleasing to the eye. A quick question, though. Where are the trees that appear on the upper right of the Fingard map on the Valcala map?

Don't forget the ### LATEST WIP ### thing Carbus. I really like your city!

Hey guys, almost finished! Thank your or your support!

@jkat718, Glad you`re liking it! Since you like the icon set so much, after this challenge I`ll try to assemble them in a single pack! :) About those trees you are right, and so I decided to delete them.

@Ilanthar, thank you for the reminder! I always forget xD

@Carbus Thanks, the icons really are cool. What is the font you're using for the Valcala and Fingard labels? Also, are the icons in the key going to match those on the Fingard map, or will they be something different?

A nitpick: the blurryness of the lines drawn with the tablet clashes with the sharpness of the buildings lines on the city map.

I like the way you're using these icons, and your map is still working great as black and white art. Great work!

Thank you all for the tips and critics!
