View Full Version : June 2014 Entry - the borderlands
06-16-2014, 07:35 PM
Evening all. I wasnt planning on entering this month, but today something clicked in my head and I found myself working away on a map of the borderlands, a disputed territory in between two rival empires. I havent really dont all that much to the map yet; but have put in a fair amount of work on the background textures and colouring. Still lots of things to label and possibly add. And the names of the empires and the back-story may still change.

Well it looks fantastic so far!

That really looks fantastic. I love the texturing.

Great work, cool Idea.
The leaders of both empires are unaware that the happiest people anywhere are those that live in the Borderlands. They are happy because they are being left alone by both empires.

They are not being left alone any more! ;)

I'm enjoying the overall color scheme and the textile-like texture in the background. The fonts are fun, and the icons are effective and cute.

Got a bit more done. I am working on making this into a battle map.

I suggest that you place just one sheep somewhere in the borderlands.

There is a cryogenic-frozen one at the Landing Zone.

As long as you can say that you have a map for the Warhamster module "Sheep on the Borderlands", I'm happy.

Ah! I thought the sheep was some sort of Settlers of Catan reference. I already had woods and mountains, so it needed sheep, wheat and bricks. Who wants to trade?

I can't help but to think of the Far East/technology mashup as being distinctly "Firefly." Was that on purpose, or just coincidental awesome? Also, I'm loving the names, but they seem a little too Scottish (?) for the Asian look and feel of the map. That could just stem from the fact that they are descendants of a spacefaring race, but it does strike me as a little odd. Also, I'm loving the textures and fonts used. What is the name of the font?

Pretty amazing, and thanks for the story. I can't help thinking that you could make a board game out of this when you're done!
