Ok,

this is my first WiP for the September Challenge as well as my first entry ever :)

Did add mountains, forests and rivers so far, I guess its a start :)

I know I have to clean up the coastline and the mountains , but I think you get the idea where I wanna go to.

Anyways, here you go :)

Great start!

I've always found it a bit neater to place the forest so that they abut the rivers... that way it doesn't look as if your rivers are passing over the forest, but rather look as if they pass through it.... just a thought tho :D

Gosh Darn - you took my nice, sensible rivers and turned them into "forkin' rivers"!!

Nice work so fat, though. I like where you are going with this!

Ops sry *blushes*

Ok, here is my next draft, though I hadnt much time today. Just added the missing elements (swamps and hills) and started to test some labeling. I am really not sure about the font, but maybe its a funny one :)

To Do's
-> Still have to clean up the coastline and maybe the mountains
-> Giving forests and swamps some details and test a few ideas about the rivers flowing through them.
-> Thinking about some points of interests maybe and finish labels
-> Add a compass rose

Ok, finally got some more time for the challenge :)

First of all I thought that I have to 'life up' those forests, as I wasn't pleased with them. I tried this by redefining their borders and was quite happy with the result.

In addition, I decided to try a different idea about the mapping element boders and dropped my intitial idea of those stroked borders and instead added a shadow border.

Is this a step in the right direction?

Please ignore the swaps for now, I had no time to redo them. Same for the compass rose, it's just a first sketch.

Another small update,

I tried to redo the swamps and added some bumps to the forests and hills/mountains.

Any comments would be welcome :)

I really like the 'carved out' style of your map, sagenlicht, but if the ships are not yours then don't forget you need to declare them according to the rules of the competition.

ty ravells :)

Aye the ships arent mine, though I thought I declare what aint mine at my last map? So far those ships are the only element that aint from me, but a ) I dont know if I keep them in the final map and b ) I am not sure if I am adding other elements that are not mine. That's why I wanted to delcare everything at my last map.

Another small update.

I added more labels and added a different compass rose.

Do you think that I should label even the smaller forests and the rivers? Given the small scale of the map I personally think it wouldnt be necessary.

Ok then, lets see:

The map is entirely done in GIMP. I didnt use any textures.

Following Elements are not mine:
* The compass rose. Its part of the compass rose pack from rpgmapmaker from this site. Its found in this threat (http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=2078). I got too lazy to do my own in the end :)
* The ship symbols. Its a googled image. I thought it 'spices' up the map a bit and indicates shipping routes. It aint a necessary addition though :)
* The font used.

Oh thank you very much rav :o

Actually I am going forward to see your tutorial about your map as well. I really like the way you did your forests and mountains :)

I edited my last post and added all needed info for the challenge then.
