If you don't already subscribe to Johnn Four's newsletter and you play roleplaying games you should. There are also frequent articles about cartography and world design elements such as this week's.

You can check out the website and sign up for the newsletter here:

What I thought was really great was that the Cartographer's Guild received a mention from a User Tip.

4. Online Sources Of Maps
From: Bryan Ray (via GMMastery Yahoo Group)

The Dundjinni User Creations forums are a very good source of objects.

RPGMapShare has hundreds of maps of varying quality. And even more objects to populate those maps.

The GM's Apprentice is the host of a massive, organized art collection called the CSUAC. I don't know what that acronym stands for, but it's almost 700 MB worth of art, free of charge.

And, the Cartographers' Guild, where most of the mapmakers are very free to share their work with GMs in need of a good map. Also note that there is a map requests forum there, in case you need something specific and don't mind either waiting a while or paying for it.

I'll second that recommendation! I must have skimmed that issue too quickly; I hadn't noticed that Johnn put that tip in there.

Anyway, there's also a Yahoo! group called gmmastery that is worthwhile. It hasn't had a lot of activity lately, but it usually stays on-topic, and they're usually respectful, at least until someone mentions alignment...

Aaannnd... Johnn Four is not only a terrifically nice guy, he's also the author of one of the better system-agnostic RPG supplements I've read: NPC Essentials. I liked it so much I bought it twice. (I lost it to a hard drive crash the first time.)

I've talked up CG over on GM Mastery so much, I guess it was high time I did the reverse.

If I remember correctly, Johnn is actually a member here as well.
