I thought I'd have a go at a monthly mapping challenge, hopefully I'll get time to complete it properly.

This is Frustheim, a cold, northern frontier town. I simply took the template and started messing with patterns and layer styles and this is was has sprung out (so far). This is an initial 'overview WIP' and I hope (given time) will progress into something reasonable.

I like the depth to this map entry. Nice 3D feel to it.

Looking good so far.

What did you do to make the tracks/etc. in the snow?

I'm a sucker for cold locations, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread. Looks great so far.

i really like that shading and lighting. some of the ridges look a little harsh, maybe there can be faults or other imperfections.

Looking good so far.

I just used a thin hardish pen with a bevel layer style at 0% fill and then subsequently softened with a low opacity soft brush to give the track a random feel.

Hmmm, I've been toying with more of a 3D feel to the map this last day or so. This is only an overview of shape and form and still needs to be painted.

Thanks, I may have to try that on mine to see how it looks.

soooo did you scrap the frosty setting and go in another direction then?

Nope, just toying with a different idea for the form/style of the map. Haven't had chance to work on it since however, hopefully I can get it up to scratch before the deadline.

Nice idea with the 3D view. It adds great depth. That floor looks familiar. :)

Well, this will be my entry for this month's challenge. Reasonably happy with it considering the amount of time I managed to put in. Not sure whether it truly qualifies as a map with no scale and a perspective view, but hey, worth a try!

This is Frustheim, a northern town finally seeing the end of winter approaching.

That's a lovely result. Good work. I particularly like the sharp long shadows that suggest a low sun - typical of the end of winter.

It definately looks cold to me. Think I'll move somewhere a little warmer. Looks good.

The stark shadows give it a really wintery feel, lovely work Aidy Baby.

Very sweet map ... love the contrast and depth .... this is more of a piece of artwork than it is a map .... great *#$@@$& job!! :D
