I made a try at a building map. Still 16x22.
I first began to draw a evil temple (so added the columns), but it transformed itsef in an ivocation course at the magic university. And of course something goes wrong...

I tried to use a semi-transparent half level to add possibilities in the battlemap. I am not totally happy with it.

The lighting seems a bit wrong to me, do you have suggestions?

Looks good to me actually. However, I don't use that software so I don't have any pointers for ya. Nice map and love the loads of detail.

Your lighting looks to have shadows away from the center of the room. A light source in the middle of the room would do that simply enough.

I don't understand your 4 circular staircases unless you have re-used them as decoration.

Looks good.

The wooden things at top and bottom of the image are level2 and the stairs are the access. Balcony like....

The highlights on the pillars don't match the lighting, but unfortunately rotating the one image will cause that.

For the perspective to work, the colored smoke plumes need to billow closer to their source. Right now they're splayed too far out. The closer you get to center, the less things should be splayed and right now the smoke is at a greater angle than the pillars.

Agreed about the pillar reflections and the shadows. It looks like the light source is supposed to be coming from the left so keep the shadows on the right.

Here is an enhanced version :
- pavement texture changed to better match the wall texture
- reflection on the columns is suppressed
- hand drawn shadows & lighting

Now what can be done?

That's a great improvement!

Likewise. It looks very good.

I've got three suggestions to take it to the next level:

1) The stained glass light should be cropped around the spiral staircase and balcony. That way the light only falls on the floor (as it's supposed to) and you get a better sense of depth from the balcony.

2) Maybe just a little drop shadow around the spiral staircases?

3) Extend the shadows slightly from the pillars furthest away from the light.

Only one small error left. The top two stairs on the left spiral staircases still have some stain glass on them. If I understand right, they're the topmost so you wouldn't see the light reflection on them.

Then...
