Hi Guys,

I'm new to this and this is my first map i ever did (i did it 4 times from start since i desided that something was always strange...) what do you think about this map? I learned everything i did on this map since it was my first time working with CC3.

The map is for our Ilandria 2 project (NWN 1 online server), which is HCRP server.

I did spent the whole 1 day doing this map!

programs used: CC3

This is a great map with alot of mood in it. I like the way you placed the mist on a top layer. The geographic features are a bit unrealistic, but wth. its fantasy.

Awesome job for a first map - looking forward to see more from you

Thanks! I started at 9:00 morning at ended at 2:00 morning :)

BTW can you guys tell me your opinion on the failures on this map? I wanna see what i made bad before printing it!

I'm gonna do 2 next versions of this map:
one will be on the pergamen (no colors...) and the second one i was inspired by someone on this forum, a mixture on the pergamen with some colors & effects so it will give a bit of 3D effect...

To be honest Nikes, most people are not going to download a zip file from an external site from someone they don't know. There is also the holiday thing that may affect your feedback rate to, but if your looking for more feedback, I would highly suggest modifying your original post (as a Mod, I was originally considering removing the link!) and include a scalled down version uploaded. Save it as jpg and if possible in your application, turn down the quality a few notches, say to 90% or perhaps 80%. You will probably not see much difference. I know people have uploaded maps that large here before, so it's all about tweaking things to get them under the size limits, or you could just upload a smaller example file to get just barely make it under the size limit and say "hey, go look here for the full sized example".

Very evocative map.

One thing though, Looking at it (and the high detail/Save really brings it out), is the forest has some of the 'back' symbols in front of the front symbols. What this means is CC3 is built, (like all maps of this style), is that the symbols are supposed to have a TOP-DOWN/BACK-FRONT style, or those at the top of the feature area (a Forest for example) are to be at the back, while those at the bottom are to be at the front.

This is extremely easy to fix in CC3. Simply Click on the SYMBOLS drop down menu, select the SORT SYMBOLS IN MAP feature, and then select all symbols in your forest, and then click DONE. And VIOLA, they are sorted properly. This works best if you doe each forest seperately, rather than the map as whole.

Good Job on the map though, I am Impressed!

Also, jpeg files are already compressed. Zipping them will often give you a larger file than the original jpeg!

Good job, a very nice work.
I don't like the CCartographer-Style, but exceptionally I like your map!

Ahhh now I can at least get a good look at it, I downloaded your .ZIP file but it was corrupted. Wish it was a higher resolution so I could zoom in on it further.

From what I can see, it is well done.

Hi again,

I've remade this map to 'pergamen version' and i also repaired some strange things i had bad feeling about them before.

Here is the link: http://lantechnet.net/ilandria/Ilandria2%20-%20pergamen.PNG

BTW: specialy in this case, i couldn't upload a smaller JPG file with smaller value of quality, because when i did it, it was totaly unreadable and crazy. So i am sending this link (uploaded to my bro's FTP, it's a direct link to map, so not needed to download anything untrusted).

P.S.: omg i'm so proud at this map! i'm an meganoob mapper, but this map seems very good (at least for me) :)

Very cool map Nikes, something you can be proud of indeed! The basics still done in CC3 I think?
I repped you for it.

You might want to upload a smaller version of this version of the map, so that people see a thumbnail they can click. Then put in the link to the huge version :)

Thanks :)

The basics still done in CC3 i think? - everything you see in that image is made in CC3 manualy by me :) also that table and the paper, drawn by my newbie hands.

Well, very cool, as I said. Did you follow a tutorial, did you buy the annual or did you do something else you want to share? I know this kind of map would have been above my skills when I first got CC3 :)
So hats off!

Nothing special, i only figured out that it's better to use more single vegetation symbols (for example simple tree) and click them more times and make a better-looking layout of some forest than fill it with the forest_bitmap_symbols and only insert the symbols around the area of the forest so it won't look like it's only filled with .bmp.

I was inspired by the default pergamen map located in the normal CC3 installation named 'Khalil' or something like that. So the only thing i changed from the first colored map is that i've inserted all the symbols forests & mountains manualy one by one and filled unused area... it seems that a more simple-looking map makes the feelings about it better than it was colorized...

This is GREAT! I would think this map could very well be a contender for a featured map. Perhaps Gandwarf can help you export a smaller size that will come under the site's size limits. What size (in MB) was the exported jpg file and what dimensions?

Very nice, and for an admitted 'noob' one you should well be proud of. Much better than anything I ever produced in CC.

I dub thee newly repped *bonk*

I am wondering, do the symbols you used come with CC3 Nikes? As the hours pass I feel myself getting more and more enthused by your latest work :)

This map is a fine example of what you can do with this software I think. With most maps I can immediately tell if it has been done with CC3. This map has a more unique feel to it!

The simple linework symbols actually came with CC2. There should be a folder with the older CC2 symbols somewhere in the CC3 directory structure. I used the same mountains in my first CC map (it's in my gallery if you're interested). Actually, I used a similar grey inner glow on my landform, too.

Very nicely done!

A .PNG file with dimensions 3600x2400 :'( when i was creating it i though it will be big enough, so i put there only 1000 x YYYY (forgot), but after exporting the image from the tool, i did set up 3600x2400 and it was PNG with the size of 11 MB, therefor that quality!

All the symbols and all the bitmap fill styles are from CC2, i did import it and it can be found in the folder Maps/Line/Varicolor - varicolor folder symbols are the same like that folder before, but in varicolor, whole symbols are colorized to the color you set up.

The /Line folder is used for the same symbols, but they have got a part of it colorized (for example a green hill with a bit brown color on it, or a vulcano mountain with colorized lava...) i desided to use the varicolor (black) because it's nice on the parchment!

From what I can see it's pretty nice (it stop loading after about an inch and half down the screen and that took 5 minutes). I'm sure that I'll like it even more if I can see more of it.

Do you use a pigeon service to connect to the internet or what? :P

Cable modem...I'd never be able to see anything here on dial-up and I'd never submit anything since that'd take a week to upload. I'll try it again later and see if the connection runs better.

Sry for the image size, but it's damn not unreadable when the quality is lowered. I think it's because of small map dimensions with large image dimensions while export....
