So i decided to work on my traditional mediums a bit more.

First digital WIP. Style inspired by Bohunk's februari challenge map.

I first try to get a similar feel to the map, and then add my own touch and style.

Looks wonderful. Cold...
I like the little symbols. Non standard, and they really work..

Your rivers need a lot of work. They split up, flow uphill...

Otherwise, it's a good start, nice & clean.

I had time to do some more work on the map.

Where exacly are the river problems? I just dont see them.

Here is an update:

Rivers generally do not split as they approach the sea - they converge. Many if not most of yours split as they go from the mountains toward the sea - not an uncommon mistake for people new to cartography (I was guilty of this myself for a long time).

Your river shapes look good (all squiggly n stuff) but try putting the forks near the mountains instead of near the coast. If this is a small island then you can leave the deltas as is otherwise move those closer to the coast. Try to get each lake to have one out going river while you can have as many you want flow into it. For the zen approach, think of your river as a tree that grows, starting at the coast, then branching upwards and outwards as it goes inland. I've done an example for ya trying to stay relatively close to your layout.

I've missed this map before, but how do I begin to say how much I like it?

Colour choice: 5/5
Composition: 5/5
Font choice and placement: 5/5
Originality of forest symbols: 5/5

I love the solid colour around the coastline (was that a Bohunk borrow? I can't remember seeing it quite that clearly in his maps). I also love the simple and effective border.

The only thing I don't like is the fish. Don't ask me why - I don't know.

I agree with Ascension about the rivers, given the placement of your mountains some of them look like they're going uphill.

Everything else about the map is pure magic though.

Thanks for the tips, steel general and ascension. Thanks for the compliments ravells!

I indeed got inspired by Bohunk's style.

I will post an update tomorrow

I fixed the rivers and ate the fish.
I think it's getting close to finished now.

Very nice map, woekan!

The aesthetics are nicely balanced with the content.

Just to let ya know I used the note paper filter in PS Elements to get the blue border around my landmass; a neat effect.

Beautiful map by the way!
