View Full Version : How to rip a Google Map

When I first started DM'ing, I needed a world map. Stuck with no talent, I ripped everything off Google Maps and worked on it in Photoshop.
This is not WIP; this is old amateur finished work. I don't remember exact details, but see if you can find what world region I ripped everything from!

I think you have a great talent when it comes to ripping google of images and then assemble them in to a new map. The only thing I miss is a better (ripped) texture for the ocean. Good job.

Great job! I'd love to see a tutorial on the methods you use!
Google Earth annoys me a bit because when you zoom in, the images are composited in strips each of which is coloured slightly differently.

Yeah, I hate that varying color thing...so I use the website FlashEarth which has different overlay styles (none of which are Google).

I remembered something: one of my players is my cousin, who plays via webcam and Maptool. Since he went to New Zealand, I threw this mashup together:

Also found yet another version of the map... seems I couldn't make up my mind.

Pretty cool...I like the pastel color scheme and the low opacity terrain rip.
