On behalf of the Cartographers' Guild community and its members, I have created this thread as a vehicle to use to readily make available any and all tutorials I've edited and repackaged as PDF documents.
This first post will act as the index file of the PDF tutorial documents. As I edit and repackage tutorials, I will add them to this post and send a new post announcing the update.
Eventually, I would like to start including other member's PDF tutorials given, of course, I have their permission to do so. Once said permission is acquired, I will post a copy of it in the "Other Members PDF Tutorials" post along with their PDF tutorial.
The second post in this thread is reserved for the "Other Members PDF Tutorials".
Without further ado, here is the index and links to the PDF tutorials:

Vandy-
Would it be possibly to provide a link to the original online tutorial in the pdf files? Often there are additional comments/discussion in the tutorial thread that may be of additional value.

Hello, All.
Thank you all for your great comments as well as your permissions to "PDFize" your tutorials. I will be working on these documents on an on-going basis.
NeonKnight and RobA, I've taken your suggestions and incorporated them into the first post. I believe it is now much more "user friendly".
Thanks for the suggestions.

Gary

Hello, All.
Thank you , NeonKnight, for stickying this thread. I really appreciate your doing so.
I want everyone to know that I haven't forgotten my "mission", rather, my on-line time have been rather curtailed. I work as a government contractor at the North Carolina National Guard and the UIS DoD has put a policy in place that limits you to one hour of Internet time per day to sites that are on a n approved list. Cartographers' Guild is not on the list.
Consequently, the onlhy time I can visit the site is in the evenings and weekends when there are a million other things pulling at my available time. I shall continue PDFing tutorials so, never fear, you that have tutorials waiting shall have them eventually PDFed.
Regards,
Gary

Well, i would like to join to this initiative, i already did one conversion without knowing it existed a post about it already.
I did a PDF version of jfrazierjr "Explanation of Layer Masks in GIMP(and PS)"
Im gonna add the file here, so you can leave your comment about the format and stuff. I would like to know if i can use the logos of the community, it would be great if we can have all those tutorials on one format and with the Cartographers logo on it.
(Maybe we can do a concentrated tome latter XD)

Hello, All.
Well, after a V - E - R - Y long hiatus due to a variety of health-related, work-related and life-related issues, I've made my way back to The Carotographer's Guild. I've missed y'all and ceratinly hope all has been well with you.
I thought it only fitting that I "announce" my return by posting another PDF tutorial. In the first post of this thread, you'll find a new link in the Photoshop Tutorials section (at the end of the post). Available there is pyrandon's "A medieval town map in Photoshop" tutorial now offered as a "take-away" PDF document.
A question of help -- I've either completely forgotten how to attach a file as a URL link or the way to attach files has changed? I could only figure out to attach it "IN-LINE" which makes the PDF document a clickable thumbnail. Can attachments still be attached as a URL link? I sure like some help on this question, thanks.!
Looking forward to chatting with everyone again.

Gary (Vandy)

Hey Vandy!
It's great to see you back with us. As for the attachment system, it has changed some with the forum upgrade. I'm not 100 percent sure about non-image attachments, but you should be able to attach files via the "Insert Attachment" button in the upload window. As I understand it, the "In-line" button serves in the same way as linking to a thumbnail image in user galleries not so long ago. Then again, I could be 100 percent wrong about all of that, but I'm sure that someone (maybe Arcana or RobA) will be along shortly to clarify the issue.
And again, Welcome Back!

If you click on the "Go Advanced" button and use "Manage Attachments", it gives you two options; "Insert Attchments" or "Insert Inline"

Hi, All.
A question for you. I have been continuing to create, repackage and link tutorials to Post 1 and Post 2 of Page 1 in this thread BUT...
... I haven't been posting these new links in THIS thread. Rather, I've been posting the announcement in the thread from which the tutorial origniated.
Would you prefer I continue as in the second paragraph or, would you prefer I post the announcement in this thread as well?
Thanks.

Hello everybody.
Looks like my english ist too bad (I'm German), because I'm working with Giide's "Ascension's Atlas Tutorial in GIMP" (http://www.cartographersguild.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30650&d=1288649425) and have some problems there.
On Site 2 stands:
k. Switch to the Channels dialog (if you don't see it, you can make it appear by using the Windows Dockable Dialogs menu option. At the bottom of the channels dialog, click the new channel icon. Name
the new channel Coastline, and check the box for Initialize from Selection.
I don't understand what "... and check the box for Initialize from Selection." means. Which box must I checked in Gimp 2.6? I can't find any checkbox with the Name "Initialize from Selection" or anything like that (or a german counterpart).
Please don't let me walk in the dark.
Cincerely,
Chazsmyr
Thank you very much for this useful post.

Hey there! I found this (http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?15185-Inkscape-Mapping-Basics&highlight=inkscape) tutorial by Hai-Etlik for inkscape already in pdf format and noticed it wasn't already in the index on here. Hopefully this helps in some way. I'm currently going through it (I decided to use inkscape) and I've found it to be pretty helpful. :D
