I am putting my hat into the ring in the hopes that I will have enough time to actually get something done.

Hurrah; somebody's finally helping to fill in my square! Looking forward to it.

Have to start somewhere so this is the scaled up area around the fort. I kinda botched RobA's tut on zooming a bit but there it is. Scale is 80px to the mile based on 750 mile Base maps. If I have the Base Map size wrong PLEASE let me know. ;)

I have been working off of 600 miles for the square. I just remeasured to be sure, and Photoshop tells me that the region is 597 miles wide by 610 miles tall, so I was pretty close.
By the bye, I don't know when they added the Analysis menu to PS, but I love it!

I knew the size for the base maps was posted somewhere, but I couldn't find it when I was looking yesterday.
just need to do a quick recalc and I will have the scale right. :)

Well, regretfully, I have only had about 4 hours to work on this this month, so I will have to bow out. Attached is where I am at atm, but I have no idea how much more time I will have to work on it before the end of the competition. 64px per mile is the scale, and every thing are in the place holder stages :/ .
Even though I will be bowing out I will be continuing this map as a WIP and will open up a thread to that effect. Having said that, any comments on the rough layout? the Fort is to the north, the citizens have dug a partial pit leaving only a guarded causeway connecting the peninsula with the rest of the land, and a wall as an extra barrier. The military "sector" is hard by that wall and the poor close to them and the closer to the fort one gets the more affluent the town gets.
Good luck all, and see you in the WIP threads ;)
