View Full Version : Does CC3 have a randomize tile feature?

In Dundjinni you can render a background from multiple tiles to generate a more realistic and flowing backdrop over a droning, repeating background. That is, in Dundjinni you can set a texture with 6 tiles all with the same name but having a suffix of a, b, c and so on. Each tile can seemlessly flow into any of the other tiles but each tile is different than the other. When Dundjinni fills an area it randomly selects from each tile to generate a more flowing backdrop.

Does CC3/DD3 do this or is this a feature request?

Thanks!

Not that I am aware of.

I found one workaround for this.

1) bring in all the related textures into Photoshop.
2) Copy each texture into a 3x3 matrix.
3) Flatten the layers so the 3x3 matrix is one layer.
4) Create another 3x3 matrix with this new layer.
5) Again flatted each layer so the 9x9 matrix is now again one layer.
6) select the inside of this matrix and run the healing brush through it a few times to randomize the interior but not effect the border so it tiles seemlessly.
7) Save as bitmap.
8) Load into CC3 as new fill style setting it to 100x100 or higher based on the size of your map.

I noticed this tricks works greats for smaller maps around 200 to 500' wide. If your maps are much larger, then I would suggest repeating the 3x3 matrix another time in Photoshop.

Here's an example of a 9x9 on a 200' wide map.

We did some work on this, so it is possible, but it's a major rewrite, and we'd have to triple the amount of art (already very large). To what extent do you want it to remain the same every time?

That 3X3 matrix /healing brush method to make a tiling texture is a new one on me. Thanks! I'm sure that'll come in handy. Excellent workaround and I think with a lot more uses!
