This goes along with the other map I'm working on for Spazzle.

Very early WIP, only minimal progress, and I realized I'll need to rework much of the city walls to incorporate more land.

@Spazzle - I took some liberties with the sketch you provided me for this area,.

Good start. I like the overall layout of the map

I really like what you did here - the "liberties" you took help a lot in making it look less like a Visio flowchart than my rough sketch. :D

I look forward to the updates (when you can spare the time).

Made some progress on this today - kinda difficult to see where I am going since there are no roads etc, but it's slowly coming around.

Its coming along nicely, Steel!

Finally was able to get some more done on this. Only real major thing left is the docks and I'm having a bit of a rough time getting something to look good.

As always C&C is encouraged and welcomed. :)

@Spazzle - I've purposely colored each 'ward' of the city differently. If there are colors you specifically like or don't like let me know. It's easy to change them as well as the texture used.

looks fantastic - I love the colors. I have some notes I'll send your way via PM.

OK - here's the latest update. Not a huge amount of changes, most were requests from Spazzle.

Gold colored building designate church/temples
The large bright red building is for the civic government and watch.
Extended the roads
Added some smaller gates in the outer wall
Added various farmsteads/houses, farmer's market, small market/bazaar inside the city walls
I kept the docks, etc. fairly simple, running parallel along the shoreline

Stupid question, but would any sailing ships of decent size be able to use the docks? I am mainly wondering how little room there would be to turn the vessels around.

Guess it depends on the scale... or I suppose they could be towed or rowed. *shrugs*

Or it could be why the Water Mage's guild is running the dock wards.

I think the updates look great! There are two classes of boats that are docking here - the river boats and the ocean-vessels.

I can easily see the larger boats maneuvering towards the deep end of the docks - and the closer-in stuff could always be used for the river boats.

And there is always a magic solution to consider as well...

OK, here's today's update. Only significant change is the addition of 'rougher' terrain on the peninsula's that the bridge connects and some of the surrounding terrain.

Still need to 'nail down' the scale.

I think this is a very nice and clear city map, but by far my favorite part is the coloring you use to differentiate between the different areas. It clearly shows the neighborhoods and political layout, without really impacting the style or breaking up the map. Also looks very easy to do as an overlay, which I like. I'm definitely going to remember that.

The only criticism I have is that some of the neighborhoods look a little too much like they are part of an awkward grid. The gray areas in the eastern part of town, in particular. This is in contrast to the two reddish neighborhoods, which I like a lot.

fantastic job, Steel! I don't have any preference for scale, shoot me a message and we can figure it out?

"...and now for something completely different." j/k :D

No big changes with this update. Finalized the scale and divided up some of the overly large buildings in some of the "neighborhoods".

@msa - I used an old map of Malta as a base for this. Many of the buildings were placed based on the shapes on that map. Some of the areas were more orderly than others. That's why there is a difference.

I'm loving it! It's great to be able to close this project down - and Steel's done a wonderful job.

Does this mean it's finished?

Not quite, still need the legend/key.

Well Spazzle decided on not having a Legend/Key so this beastie is done.

Oh cool. That's a great idea!
