Drawn in Serif Drawplus X3, Context Free and using Wag's tree symbols.

It was a fun project but very time intensive. I rushed the title which doesn't really do the map justice. There was a lot more I wanted to do with it, but I ran out of energy in the end and R/L is going to be taking me away from mapping for awhile so I had to get it done.

Well Ravells, in the end I rushed all my big city maps. It gets really tedious sometimes and then when you can see the finish somewhere around the corner...

Anyway, it turned out pretty well I think! And I know what an immense effort this took. Have some rep :)

You could always go back to the map later. You won't like that idea at the moment, but I recently redid some of the city maps that I cursed and told myself I would never touch again :D

Yeah, right now I'm sick of the bloody thing! :) . I probably will come back to it and finish off much of what I had in mind but that's going to be a much later. Months I think. Thanks for the rep!

Came out nicely Ravs!

Love the idea of using rope as the border.

Doh! Didn't even notice the rope.
Ravells, what font were you using for labels like "Parade ground" or "Bailey" in the northwest of the map?

Thanks SG.

The font's called Papyrus (I think it's the univerally hated one after comic sans by typographers).

cheers

Why would it be hated? Because it's overused?

Yes, overused and usually inappropriately....like comic sans.

Impressive map. And interesting choise of color for the water. It gives a very different feel than any shade of blue would.

I actually like the 'Papyrus' font and don't view it as overused.

However 'Comic-Sans' definitely is overused (IMNSHO) and it irritates the crap out of me for some reason when people at work use it in e-mails.

I like Papyrus too - we used it on our wedding invitations. It's great for maps because it's so light and has a bit of handdrawn character. You should go to the 'Typrographist' site. I went there for a bit, so many of them are so up themselves they are almost detached from reality. It's almost as if they think the world should revolve around what designers want rather than designers performing a service for a market (like the rest of us do with our jobs). I recall one post where a guy said he quit his job because his boss insisted on using three full stops instead of the ellipsis symbol. I'm sure there must have been more to it than that, but still. In spite of all the posturing, there are some very interesting reads there and the eye for detail that those people have is staggering.

The one post I made there, asking for help about creating a font set was never answered, so I abandoned the place.

@Ghostman - thanks. I'm afraid I borrowed the idea fom one of the cartographer's choice maps, but I didn't pull it off anywhere near as well. The trouble with using vector is you don't get blends for layers so I couldn't get the effect I really wanted (the sea being unpainted parchment), with the parchment grunge and fold marks showing through in the land areas. Thinking about it now, I prefer the blue, it makes the green of the land 'pop' more.

Well I certainly like the map. It seems clear and useful.

Very nice map. I'm still not too fond of the house shapes in places, but the great picture is just that: great!

Great map.
I love he contour lines and mis of symbols (trees and buildings) The underground area is interesting, and the colour for the sea really works. I felt like the city was alive when I was viewing it, and just wanted to explore it for real! lol.

Good work.

Ravells, there is a gazetteer of Port Jartor? Is a city in your game world?

Thanks in advance!

Hi rol, I'm afraid not. I drew this for another member who wanted it for her game world. But please feel free to identify lots of locations!

Beautiful! My preference is for the first one (just my own personal preference) but the newest one is breath-taking! *sends some imaginary rep*
